"Eager to court the local community, the chef gave top billing in the shop name to familiar ‘chukasoba’ (ramen). Soup combines meat and seafood dashi for a deep, satisfying flavour. Kaeshi (a mixture of soy sauce, sugar and mirin) is supplemented with squid and fish sauce, enhancing umami. The low-hydration noodles are boiled only briefly, yielding a pleasing al dente texture that lets the flavour of the wheat come out. The taste of soy, smooth and refreshing yet rich and deep, conveys the simple honesty of the dish." - Michelin Inspector

Delicious ramen! The broth is full of flavour in a subtle way and the thin ramen was perfectly cooked. The pork slices and wontons were a delight. We got there early and lined up. Their service is pretty quick so I don’t imagine the wait to be that long. The staff were also very friendly. I can see why this restaurant became part of Michelin's Bib Gourmand Guide - highly recommend a visit.

Classic Shoyu with a slight oily richness yet still retains that classic taste. Hits all the right notes. Super tender chashu and flavorful Wontons. The thin noodles are slurp-worthy.

Kotetsu is a ramen restaurant located in a shopping street a short walk from Shimokitazawa Station. It is mainly a soy sauce ramen with a lot of niboshi (dried fish). Even full options such as eggs and wontons are reasonably price. It's the kind of place you want to eat at every day.

Affordable, clean tasting ramen. Recommended on the Michelin’s Bib Gourmand guide, this is well worth the stop. You might miss the exterior signage during the day so be sure to look for the white barred door. There was a line when I went but it goes by fast. The two main type of broths are shoyu and shio. I ordered the shoyu or chukasoba because it is the most recommended type to get order. What’s noteworthy about this broth is that it’s made from pork and chicken bones and dried fish. The fish adds another layer of depth to the clean tasting broth. When I left, I didn’t feel too full and felt refreshed.

Truly deserved the Michelin reputation. The food is really really good. The broth has a strong taste but feels light and not heavy at all, you will not feel overwhelmed by it. The chashu is tasty and the wonton is really tender with a strong flavor. It is also reasonably priced, you can get a portion for less than ¥1000. The staff are friendly and attentive, and warm up to both locals and foreigners. Mind that the shop is quite small with limited seats, so it is possible you have to wait for an open seat. Dining in with many people would be difficult. For my personal opinion and experience, this is one of the best ramen I have ever tasted.

Awesome Michelin recommended ramen at Kotetsu at Shimokitazawa. Just a small restaurant which only sit 8 pax at a time. Just go for the special ramen, you won’t regret the wait…

This place is delicious. The soup is pretty addicting, and the wontons are a yummy touch. The noodles are a tad hard for my liking, but I did end up finishing them anyway. 900 yen for the wonton ramen
