The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada | Eater

"Maître fromager (cheese master) Afrim Pristine is an inimitable maestro of fine and funky food. His family has been in the cheese business since the 1970s, and they’ve run this gourmet grocery store and fromagerie on Ripley Avenue in the west end of the city since 2000, when they moved from the original Bloor Street outpost. In a not-so-subtle quest to take over the entire block, the cheese empire has expanded into a 12,000-square-foot epicurean emporium filled to the gills with artisan charcuterie, olive oils, truffles, fresh produce, prepared foods, and over 500 varieties of wheels, wedges, slices, and hunks. You’ll also find a wine bar on the second floor, created in collaboration with Franco Stalteri of Charlie’s Burgers, and Pristine’s famous tourable cheese vault, which secures a million dollars worth of nose-tickling, age-ripened products. Know before you go: CB Bottega and the seasonal food truck parked there offer grab-and-go snacks and meals you can enjoy in the covered outdoor patio space." - Tiffany Leigh

The 38 Essential Toronto Restaurants

"Maître fromager (cheese master) Afrim Pristine is an inimitable maestro of his fine and funky edible art. (There’s an additional bodega/bakery/homewares store in a separate building, as well.) You’ll also find a brand-new wine bar on the second floor, created in collaboration with Charlie’s Burgers’ Franco Stalteri (a speakeasy dinner party organizer-turned-wine subscription connoisseur and educator). If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, the biggest spotlight is saved for Pristine’s famous tourable cheese vault, securing over $1.1 million USD of nose-tickling, age-ripened products." - Tiffany Leigh

"The latest initiative from Toronto’s (okay, Canada’s) premier cheese emporium, the Cheese Boutique, has almost nothing to do with cheese. Instead, it revolves around an old food truck purchased at auction a few years back for the purpose of mobile catering but, for now, is parked on store property. Afrim Pristine put up an IG post inviting any other interested local chefs to book a weekend in the truck near his store entrance gratis — on the sole condition that they make a credible promise to sell very good food."

Perfection! The Cheese Boutique has the best cheese and such knowledgeable and welcoming staff. They also have the best grocery selection in the city. If you need top notch pretty much anything-they will have it or be able to get it. The catering department is amazing and from birthdays to large events, they have not missed in the 15 years we have been ordering from them. I also appreciate that they accommodate such a wide range of restrictions including dairy free cheeses. My kids love going with us and trying new things and checking out all the in season produce. There is no better collection of pannetone for gifting if you like that. A recent Sunday morning experience had an owner peeling and offering us a taste of fresh Clementines from Argentina. Amazing! Everyone is nice and friendly and you feel like you are at a farmer’s market in Europe. Shopping here is an experience not just a mundane task on a to do list. Love, love, love.

Omg, this place is such a hidden gem tucked away in the city. I actually stumbled on it by accident while biking through the neighborhood on a weekend, and I can’t believe I hadn’t seen it on social media before. Honestly feels like the kind of spot Toronto has been missing. First off, the staff are amazing: professional, super knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. They really go out of their way to make sure you’re happy. The vibe of the shop is great, and I couldn’t resist taking a bunch of photos of the space and products. The selection here is huge, so many cheeses to choose from (don’t be shy about asking questions, they’ll happily walk you through it), plus a wide range of deli items and samples to taste. There’s also a butcher at the back with really fresh, high-quality cuts, most of it made in-house. I’ve pinned this spot on my Google Maps and already know I’ll be coming back every couple of weeks. This time we picked up salami, cheese, and olives, all of which were excellent. Highly recommend trying the Applewood Triple Aged Cheddar, it’s absolutely amazing!!!!🧀 There’s also another location just down the street with a dining area and a bakery, which I didn’t get to try yet, but I definitely will on my next visit.

For more than 20 years, I've been embarking on a culinary adventure, and my compass has always pointed to the Cheese Boutique. It's more than just a store; it's a destination, a grand bazaar where every aisle promises a new discovery. This is not a place for the faint of heart or the light of wallet, but for those who seek to truly indulge their senses, it's a pilgrimage worth making. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a breathtaking landscape of cheese. From creamy bries to pungent blues and aged cheddars, the selection is a testament to the world's finest dairies. The staff, like seasoned guides on this expedition, are always ready to lead you through the terrain, offering a taste of a new find or a story about an old favourite. Their knowledge is as deep as their passion, transforming a simple purchase into an educational experience. But the journey doesn't end with cheese. The Cheese Boutique is a treasure trove of gourmet delights. The produce section overflows with fruits and vegetables that seem to have been plucked directly from a European farmer’s market. Shelves are stocked with international condiments, exquisite chocolates, and a dizzying array of European snacks that could fuel an entire continent's worth of cravings. And let's not forget the majestic butchery. The selection of meats and house-made sausages and burgers is vast, with each cut promising a feast fit for royalty. Whether you're hosting a grand dinner party or simply seeking a personal indulgence, the quality is unparalleled. Yes, the price tag can be a shock, but you're not just paying for a product; you're paying for an experience. You're paying for the two decades of curated perfection, for the expertise, and for the sheer joy of discovering something new and delicious. The Cheese Boutique is an adventurer's dream, a place where every visit is a journey and every purchase is a treasure.

I’ve been a loyal customer of the Cheese Boutique for over 5 years and have always loved the quality, selection, and service. It’s been my go-to spot for cheese, charcuterie, and specialty items. Unfortunately, my experience tonight really disappointed me. When they began slicing the prosciutto, I noticed it was coming from the very end of the leg, small trimmings rather than the usual full slices. I had to specifically ask for a proper piece from a new leg, which felt surprising given the high standards I’ve come to expect here. *Update - pic 3* I opened the Serrano Ham today and unfortunately, it’s also made up of small, uneven slices. It seems this might be a recurring issue.

The Cheese Boutique is my new favourite place to shop for everything cheese and then some! First off- the selection of cheese is outrageous and the staff are so kind and friendly and welcoming of “tasting” samples to be sure what you buy is what you want! The grocery area carry’s pastas of every shape you can imagine and different sauces that could have you making different pastas for months! The Olives and cured meats looked so good we took home at least 4 different containers of olives. The vegetable and fruit area also has loads to choose from and I bought mini honey squashes that are a little hard to find! So good roasted! All in all I will definitely make the drive from the north part of the city at least every month to 6 weeks to stock up on cheese, breads, and Hammonds Chocolate Bars! Next time I will venture into the beautiful olive oil area and the vinegars! I had to save something for my next visit! NOTE: give yourself time to explore the store. This is not a place to rush through! Have fun!

Nice selection. Should be easier to shop small sizes of great cheese so you can have many varieties.

Excellent premium quality grocery store. So many cheese selections as well as other produce, meats, wines, and a lot of Italian imports. The staff are usually super friendly. Highly recommend!

Hands down one of the best boutique food experiences in Toronto. Not just cheese (their huge selection is world-class) but everything from prepared items to ingredients is exceptional quality. Whether its cured meats or pastries or olive oils, all are top-tier. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable without being pretentious. You go in for one thing, end up leaving with ten, and somehow feel great about it. Phenomenal place to shop for any occasion. Also, the Bodega next to it is amazing, with kitchen and bakery for fresh meals.
