Drove hours and hours just to grab the lobster roll when it came out with no mayo and lettuce only so disappointed you better look for parking ahead of time and make a reservation because this place is very busy. The poutine was good and the fish and chips also looked good. Service 2/10 Lobster roll 2/10 could be an 8 with mayo Overall Nice place just busy

Best fish in chips in our opinion out of the four places we had it in st John/surrounding area. Extremely lightly battered, delicious and fresh. Also ordered the the moose burger but not gamey enough of a flavor, was expecting it to be more flavorful but it was just good not spectacular. The chowder was delicious too. Definitely would go again for their fish though! Waitress was very friendly and the vibes feel really good there

Good casual atmosphere and location is pretty good. We tried tacos, fish and chips and moose burger. Pretty good food. Fish and chips go better with the sauce on the side. But i think other items were way better in taste. It is difficult to find space for bigger groups. Call in advance and they will accommodate you. Staff was helpful and respond quickly even when it was too busy. Food arrival time was good. Not have to wait for a long time. Its difficult to find parking on weekends as it gets very busy.

We ate here a few years ago and it was phenomenal. Today, the food and service is definitely lacklustre. The spinach dip was just warm. It tasted alright but *very* tiny for $16 and some of the chips were almost soft and chewy, it was bizarre. I’m glad we didn’t add the crab for $10 extra. We both got the lobster mac and cheese ($36 each) and it was a small portion of what tasted like a frozen mac and cheese dinner with elbow noodles. I’m guessing they top it with the lobster and cheese before broiling because my cheese was only partially melted and the lobster was dried out, and rubbery as you can see in the picture. The garlic bread stole the show, it was fantastic. Our waitress who took our drink and food order was pretty inattentive, didn’t make small talk or anything, didn’t refill our drinks, couldn’t get her attention for another. Another couple of girls brought our appetizer and food. They were very sweet! We went for our anniversary and were planning to bring family from the states for some traditional Newfoundland grub but likely won’t be back. If you’re charging almost $40 for mac and cheese it should be out of this world. There’s cheaper places with bigger portions, and better quality to spend a hundred bucks for sure! (Fish Exchange!)

Our second time here in as many trips to Newfoundland! My son and daughter really enjoyed the vegan fish tacos the last time we were there and wanted them again! This was my first time having moose meat, my husband has never had cod to idea before! Our meal was delicious and service is very friendly! Thank you!

Friends of ours are related to the Chafe's who run the restaurant. They recommended we check it out. It did not disappoint. They make an excellent Newfoundland pulled moose sandwich and moose burger. The food was so good we traveled back from St. John's to try some other dishes. We tried the fish (cod) and chips and fish tacos. They were excellent as well. It's a busy place, so it's best to call ahead. Casual, rustic atmosphere. Spectacular scenery in Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove.

I will start by saying the cod tacos were outstanding. Unfortunately, the rest of the visit was not. We had a reservation, which worked out great, given the long line of people waiting. There were two tables outside on the deck open, so I asked if we could sit there and was told no. Hostess said that was only for people on the standby waitlist. Odd since I had a reservation and the space was available. Even worse is that one table on the deck stayed open for over 30 minutes. Atmosphere inside was hot, stuffy, and loud. There was also very little parking, so be ready to park and walk…no biggie if you know that going in. We parked at the community center. Food was good but we won’t be back.

Great local restaurant in Petty harbour. Food was great, quick to come out of the kitchen, great portions. Awesome atmosphere. I recommend coming here if you are in the area.

The food was so good and even though the restaurant was busy with a bus tour our service was fantastic and the staff was so welcoming. If you get fries with your meal don't forget to order gravy. It was excellent.

Try the battered cod it was the thing that I tried today. Server was attentive and gave me some suggestions on what to order. I sat inside as today was a cloudy rainy day. The atmosphere was nice. Wooden tables and chairs with booths. I sat upstairs close to the bar. The music was playing old Newfoundland country type songs.

My girlfriend and I were able to walk in without a reservation on a Thursday right at lunchtime and be seated on the balcony. It was a beautiful day and our server was really helpful and patient. I'm a CFA and had to try cod tongues. I wouldn't have them anywhere else; they were fried really nicely and slimy, but not too gelatinous. We also shared the moose sliders, poutine, and a side of coleslaw. The poutine was super tasty, in my opinion. I'll definitely go back!

I went to Chafe's for the first time since 2009, and it is now a full service restaurant, in a beauiful harbor location near St. John, Newfoundland. Friendly service, great fried cod (est ever, with very light crust. I realized that didn't need a thicker crust, because the fish was so good. Chips were darkly crispy. The lobster roll was good, but expensive and not as great as the fish. Oh, the slaw was also delicious. They didn't have mussels, until later in the day, which was a disapplintment.

Food and service and live music was great. Will be back with more friends. We got lucky and never had to wait for a table due to it just opened for the season.

The food was great the mashed potatoes could use some love very bland no flavour looked good but not. The get a table process needs some help. They leave you hanging it is a real cluster. People have reservation they get there the reservation is given away. It is entertaining to watch but a little organization would help alot

On my last day in Newfoundland & Labrador I visited the community of Petty Harbour - specifically to have dinner at Chafe's Landing. Known for its fantastic fish and chips with no shortage of rave reviews on Yelp I thought it best to plan ahead and get on the Yelp Waitlist to avoid having to figure out a plan B. The Yelp Waitlist indicated that I was the 34th in line to get a table! WOW this must be a really special place if so many people are waiting to eat here I thought to myself. Discouraged but persistent I thought I'd try my luck anyways and I'm so glad that I did!!! Chafe's Landing did not disappoint! Service exceptional- the staff were so kind to seat us immediately. I ordered the cod fish tacos which were so good. More than enough for me; no room left for dessert. What a great meal

Their Lobster mac & cheese is to DIE for. Such a nice location, beautiful ambience and commitment to theme.

This was by far the best meal I had while visiting Newfoundland. While the wait took a while and I went in the middle of the week for lunch, it was well worth it! The fish was light and flaky and the best fried fish I have ever had, even compared to places in the UK! The French fries were also delicious and they come with gravy that is hand downs the most flavorful ever.

we tried the lobster sliders, spinach and artichoke dip and the seafood chowder. the seafood chowder was ok. Have had better. the Lobster sliders were delicious but using small brioche buns make the hard. The spinach and artichoke dip was blended and even though it was good, it looked like there was no spinach or artichoke in it.

Amazing guy singing he made our whole night, the old wooden pub feel was great because it had the feel of an old bar it was very very clean. Our server was really nice and attentive. The only reason for 3 stars is the food was only subpar and the parking was really difficult. This is a great place to go for fish not chips (the fries weren't great) and a beer and hang out with your friends listen to great music and be around awesome people!

Cool little spot is a tiny cove. Good atmosphere, good food, good service. I would recommend.

went there on a Saturday night. place was full and there was a waiting list. we had the pan fried cod. It was probaly good when it was first cooked, but it had been on te steam table too long. Fries were okay. Service was excellent and the location and ambiance were first rate. It's unfortunate that they did it thi way as it doesn't take long to fry cod. Next time I go, I will have the fish and chips.

The problem about food shows on TV is that you want to go eat at the place while watching. That is rarely feasible. However for me I had the fortunate opportunity of watching "You gotta eat here" the week before my trip to Newfoundland. On TV the place looked quintessentially atypical of a Newfie food paradise . When I arrived at the restaurant it was just as on TV. To get here is a bit out of St John's down in Petty Harbour. It's a quaint little village and if you are lucky like we were we had an iceberg sighting just off the coast after lunch. On my NF trip I had two meals here. First meal consisted lobster roll with poutine and stuffing. Lobster was creamy fresh succulent and delicious. The poutine with what appeared to be turkey stuffing was divine. Really solid. Second meal was fish tacos (cod) which were very good with mango and side poutine (as first time was not enough) just not as good as the first meal. The restaurant was busy on both visits. Second visit took quite some time for the food to come out. Seemed like 30 min for the food to come out. You need to be patient in NF at times as it can take time at restaurants. The place didn't seem too busy but maybe it was. Overall a very great experience and highly recommended.

We had the world's best fish and chips at Chafe's Landing today. Yesterday we had the world's best fish and chips at the Captain's Table. Yesterday's was better. Chafe's Landing is a pub, with all that implies. The kitchen was very slow. The Yelp 'no wait' system showed no wait, so we traveled to the restaurant, a significant distance out of our way, only to find a 45 minute wait in a charming little town with no place to park and nothing to do. It's not a customer focused place. Just a common pub.

I ventured out to Petty Harbour and went to the highly suggested Chafe's Landing. I ate the shrimp tacos ($15) & the lobster roll (22). Both were very good and the flavour was excellent. Ambiance was very quiet but it was lunchtime a area for live music was present but no one was performing. Upstairs seating was great because I could see an iceberg floating in the distance from my table. I'll definitely be back!

I've never had a bad meal there! The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The fish tacos are my go-to every time!

The best fish and chips by far! Ever... In the world and I have had a lot of fish and chips Sorry Brits, I think they have you beat! Also their seafood chowder is to die for. In an adorable seaside town. Worth the drive from St.Johns.

Service was awesome! Cute location - very scenic and quaint. It's located in a Harbour - we got great pics! We had the lobster roll which was really tasty. There is a good amount of lobster on the sandwich and the bread and lettuce was fresh! We also had Chafes platter with shrimp, fish, clams, calamari with a side of fries and onion rings. White sangria was crisp, not too sweet. Would definitely go again!

Had the Lobster roll and Pulled Moose sandwich. l as takeout. They were both great! The Lobster roll has good chunks of lobster meat in a mayo type sauce. The pulled moose tastes much like a pulled pork, but different enough that you know it isn't pork. It is a busy place (which is why we ended up with takeout). It is right in Petty Harbour so we sat by the water to eat which worked out nicely.

We heard from a local that this was a really good seafood restaurant. To be honest, the seafood here was good, but not markedly better than anything in St.Johns. What thus place did have that other places didn't was an hour and 15 minute wait to get a table and then a 45 minute wait to get even the appetizers we ordered. Not worth 3 hours for this lunch.

Order the crab pot - the snow crab is caught off Petty Harbour, and the meal comes with four (yes, FOUR!) clusters of crab legs (each cluster has 5 legs), with melted butter, baby potatoes, and corn on the cob...for only $29!!!! Most satisfying meal I've had this whole trip - Chafe's Landing is a MUST! Sit upstairs if there's room - brighter, and there was live music (at lunch on a Monday, surprisingly).

Very overrated!! Hard to get in, hard to get served. Extremely rude hostess. Food was pretty good, but not worth 1-1/2 hr food (and drink) wait + the table wait. Waitress was sweet and apologetic, but not sweet enough to cover for the rudeness and insolence of the hostess.

Incredibly rude, unfriendly hostess. Shouldn't be involved in the hospitality business in any way. Has an incredibly unappealing demeanor and whole approach. She's in the utterly wrong profession. Horrible detriment to this restaurant and its mission.

Lobster Role, Moose Sausage, Cod Cake, Pea Soup, Chips, Quidi Vidi.... all perfect. Go here. Petty Harbour is the best fishing town close to St. Johns. Better and closer to Brigus and Cupids. 20 minutes from St. Johns and a million miles away.

I came on a rainy Sunday afternoon on my iceberg hunting trip. I had the Lobster sliders and moose stew, both were yummy. I'm a bit allergic to onions and my waitress Alanna was very helpful, she went back to the Kitchen twice to confirm. She also offered to take my to go order so I don't have to go downstairs to the hostess. It's a great place on the way to or back from Cape Spear.

Amazing!!!! The chowder was the best I have ever had. It had this great Smokey flavor to it. Codfish cake was spot on. We also had the cod fish tacos. They were super delicious! Oh and of course the fish and chips. The chips were perfect and the fish was so flakey and the batter was nice and light. My only complaint is there seemed to be a lot of oil still dripping off the fish and our server forgot our waters. Not a huge deal but my husband was dying from a hangover and really wanted his water. Lol

"If you can see the water, order the fish." Chafe's had a 45 minute wait this evening, but the sips of NL Quidi Vidi beer helped to pleasantly pass the wait. When our fish arrived, the batter was crisp and tasty, not at all greasy like so much deep fried fish in other places. The place is known for its plates of fresh (cod) fish, and you can see the Atlantic Ocean from your table -- so, order the fish and chips, too.

They have recently added more vegetarian options to the menu, and the beyond sausage roll is by far the best!

Excellent lunch I had the lobster roll very good fresh lobster my husband had the cod and fries there was more fish than fries on the plate unlike other places you go to.

Before we leave St. John's we usually like a good feast of fish and chips. This is the place. The cod is brought in daily and the batter is thin, delicate and tasty with a generous portion of fish. There was an added bonus this year as the view out the window included a good size iceberg at the end of the harbour

We went here after a whale tour for lunch. Here's the bad- the place was packed (probably a good thing we thought). Was a little odd and disorganized getting our name down, but not a big deal. The food was great, mostly fried, granted, but it was a healthy portion and the fish and chips were to die for. The salads are a bit pricey but also good. Service was friendly, but a tad slow. Overall we would come again, hope people come out to try this place!

This place is wicked good! Had moose, fish and chips, mac n' cheese, and onion rings! Real local experience, what we come to experience on this amazing island. Locals refer to it by word of mouth- that's a fantastic sign.

Busy place with little parking and inexperienced wait staff. This place could be amazing with a little more attention to detail and better training for their servers. The bathrooms needed care as there was paper everywhere. I thought that might change when I saw my waitress inside but she just washed her hands, checked her cell phone and left without picking up a thing. The food and drinks on the other hand were delicious! Had the sangria, crab cakes and lobster roll and substituted the fries for salad (extra charge not explained). My partner had the fish & chips with "dressing" (bread crumbs) and gravy and my son had the Pulled Moose sandwich and fries which he said were delicious. For a little town this was so nice and it had a great patio. Hopefully they will work on these other little details as the season progresses.

This hidden gem is worth the drive, the BEST fish and chips! Fresh, soft, tasty...#best literally. Also ordered the crab cake burger and the drunken clams. Yes, yes and yes!! Lol can't wait to revisit this place. Thanks to the locals that told us about Chafes Landing

If I could add another star, I would. On a recent trip to Newfoundland my husband, brother & sister-in-law and I, set about exploring one day. And we happened upon Petty Harbour and this utterly wonderful eating place. We couldn't believe how fresh it all was! Imagine fish caught that morning prepared to perfection! Next time we venture up from Texas I'll try the crab pot. Phil says he had the freshest cod ever! Charming staff and fun place! We left with wonderful memories.

Had a few incredible meals here over last summer. Fish from the F&C was caught by the owner that morning - melt in your mouth! The batter was very light, quite like a Japanese tempura. Great atmosphere with live music and a great view. Fast, efficient service at reasonable price. Can't wait to return this summer!

They make amazing food and are very nice people if you want authentic Newfoundland food go here!

We had late lunch here on June 10,2016. Meal was incredible. I had a steamed lobster and it was done to perfection. Hubby had Clam Chowder followed by Clams and chips. Also had breaded calamari, which were the best he has ever had in a restaurant. The restaurant was recommended by friends and I would highly recommend it to others.

Lobster Roll was unreal. Homemade fries and harvest salad were also great :) cozy atmosphere when the weather outside was rainy. Highly recommend :)

We were driving from St John to Cape spears lighthouse and looking for a place for dinner and Chafe's landing was on the way and had good reviews so we stopped there. Codfish tongues and scrunions were very tasty and the moose soup and salad were nice. There was live music (acoustic guitar and singer) the night we went and he was pretty good. Great atmosphere and service. I would go back again

THE freshest fish you can have; right from the dock just across the road! Can't say enough about it - Blackie O'Leary playing live and fish and chips with coleslaw and gravy, and an ice cold QV Iceberg beer! HEAVEN!!!!! Dare I say, this is better than Ches's!!!! I brought a first-time visitor to NL to Chafe's Landing - blew him away with the "melt in your mouth" fish!

Outstanding delicious!! Freshest cod for fish & chips. Savory dressing & gravy on chips. Carrot cake was wonderful topper to an all around yummy meal. Definitely worth the trip to this lovely little fishing hamlet.

Nothing special. Batter light on fish but not a lot of flavour. Fish itself fresh and delicious. $107 for 4 people with one beer each no dessert or app! A little pricey! No view of water inside the restaurant. Outside upper deck has only view. Save yourself the drive, wait and price ...head for Scampers!
