"Wine tasting in a noble castle If you are based in Florence and want to escape the city for a day of wine tasting and good food, Castello di Sonnino, home of the aristocratic Barone de Renzis Sonnino family, is only a twenty-minute drive away, and you can get there on the public bus. The oldest part of this fairytale castle and its rambling outbuildings dates from the 1200s, but it has been added to over the centuries. Part of the Chianti-Montespertoli DOCG, 48 hectares are planted with vines and the wines have won many awards including a gold medal from Decanter magazine for the 2015 Vin Santo. A visit here can include a tour of the cellars, a tasting of the superb wines and lunch in the restaurant: you may even meet Caterina, the present Baroness. And if was you are too tired to make the journey back to Florence, there are several apartments for rent on the property."

Incredible experience, beautiful views, delicious wine, friendly service & we got a private tour ! We loved our time at Castello Sonnino! The wine tasting was sooo good - the wines were delicious and the servings were generous. We also got served lovely bruschetta - with their own olive oil and toppings - which were unexpected. The outside area is STUNNING and I recommend sitting out there. When we arrived it was only set up for us and one other table so we had a very calm, private, and special experience. Our server's knowledge and passion for their wines was obvious, and we felt very taken care of. Our wine tasting included a tour of the cellars and we we super lucky as we were the only booking - so we went on a private tour and got to learn so much about the history of the property (like centuries of history!!). Really enjoyed this place. The view was such a shift from being in Florence (where we came from). We also took a bus which was only around an hour long and a short walk from the location. Highly recommend this hidden gem for anyone wanting a Tuscan wine experience and to see something different than the city. This day is one of our most loved memories from our trip.

We had the most beautiful day at the Castello Sonnino. The Sonnino family is kind, welcoming and passionate about preserving the history and culture of winemaking and the original beauty of the castle. Would highly recommend this unique and memorable experience ❤️ -the Katz Family

We did the wine tasting + tour. Tours like this are usually long and boring but this was was particularly interesting and the place's history is actually very unique. We also grabbed a quick cheese+ham lunch along with the wine which was pretty good. The wine was good too but definitely not among the best we had around this area. If you're staying in the area this is a cool 1-2 hour tour but I wouldn't recommend driving a long way to get here.

This was a truly memorable experience. Edoardo, amusingly and intelligently, talked us through the winemaking process and the challenges involved in today's climate. The Baronessa showed us the numerous historical treasures of the villa and the joys of the beautiful, elegant rooms but rooms which were, above all, lovely family spaces. Both our guides showed such dedication and love for this castle, its preservation and sustainability.

Great place to visit! We did the wine tour and light lunch option. We were able to get in even though we did not reserve in advance. The staff-Anna was friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. The winery seems to have a small operation feel-which is very nice. Would definitely do it again if we are in the area.

Very impressed with the customer service at this beautiful wine cellar. The young man who was the guide was generous with his time and very happy to share his love of his work. I don't normally drink wine, but this was one of my favourite tourist stops. Highly recommended.
