"Here's the Deal I still owe my best friend millions for introducing me to Wellington's Cafe L'Affare while I was working in New Zealand . Founded in 1990, this quintessential cafe is cozy, delicious and gourmet ground breaking. What are your food choices, you ask? All-day breakfast, a delicious à la carte lunch menu, daily changing soup and pasta options and a comprehensive selection of café style counter food. There's not only the famed espresso and coffee bar, but also a license for beer and wine, as well as freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. This is the perfect place to start the day off right, or recharge at lunch during a big visit to Wellington, New Zealand. If you're not going through Wellington, fear not. Local cafes all throughout the country serve their delicious coffee. L'affare in Italian means 'the deal'."

This is a quite large place, lots of seating. First I'd like to praise the chef. I had the waffles - the waffle itself was perfect with a rich flavor, not bland. The 2 compotes with it were also perfect, the banana was tasty and the chocolate / coffee mousse just right. My only criticism - the above was perfect - and then they added half a cup of chopped dried banana pieces. They were also a few chocolate coated coffee beans. That didn't add anything and in fact detracted from what the chef prepared. Too many flavors / textures. It became muddled. I took them off, but they were mixed in a bit. The latte was also a bit small. However - I would come back and just tell them no dried banana pieces. I would eat the waffle plain ....lol. It's was that good.

Beautiful food, I had the pork belly wrap, and it tasted delicious. It's located opposite Moore Wilson wholesale. Parkings are on the street but can be quite full during the day.

Visited this cafe with high expectations, but what a disappointment! I ordered the avocado toast, and was shocked when it arrived—if you can even call that a portion. For $24, I was served a single tiny slice of bread with a miserly smear of avocado. When we politely brought up the portion size to the staff, the chefs couldn’t have cared less and lied saying the small portion was because it was a vegan version, however the only thing that was removed from the normal one was the crumbled feta. No effort to make it right, just a dismissive attitude. For a place charging premium prices, you’d expect at least decent customer service. This experience was not only underwhelming but downright insulting. Save your money and go somewhere that values its customers—and knows how to make proper avocado toast! 1/5 stars, and that’s being generous.

My friend was visiting from London, and I took him here thinking it would impress. Instead, it was an absolute joke—just embarrassing! My friend ordered the avocado toast, and when it arrived, we couldn’t quite believe our eyes. For $24, they served a single, sad slice of bread straight from the Tip Top packet with a brown smear of avocado which resembled more of a dog's breakfast. Daylight robbery! When we raised this politely with the staff, they tried to lie to us, claiming they had to remove the eggs. But as you can see on the menu, there’s no mention of eggs in the first place. The waitress even agreed but said there was nothing she could do as the chef was adament. So they’re just serving this sorry excuse for a dish and blatantly ripping people off. We walked away feeling like fools, which was confirmed when we headed past the waterfront and saw a 12 year old kid selling smashed avo on toast for $6 which looked a hell of a lot better than what we'd just eaten... Too bad we'd already emptied our pockets.

The food was a bit average today, which is a bit unfortunate as I’ve really enjoyed the previous dining experiences. I chose the fried chicken waffles however the entire plate was overpowered by the pickled cabbage on the side - making everything else bland and flavourless in comparison, including the coffee. Thank goodness for the freshly squeezed OJ

We came in on Saturday just to grab a takeaway coffee and noticed all the yummy looking food going out from the kitchen so returned Sunday to enjoy a yummy breakfast before catching our flight back to Auckland. The Staff on both days were fabulous and the coffee was perfect and quick. Highly recommend as a stop when in Wellington.
