"Some of the best versions austerely have only matzo balls and consomme, but this version ($14.50) treats the classic soup as a full meal. Sure, the matzoh ball itself is huge and misshapen, but there’s plenty of pulled chicken, while chopped carrot and celery abound in a healthy sort of way." - Eater Staff

"This Brooklyn-themed tourist trap has a core menu of Jewish deli favorites, including decent pastrami that’s better in a hash with eggs than in a sandwich. The matzo ball soup is top-notch, and so is the comically large all-beef hot dog, which weighs in at nearly a pound and constitutes a full meal. Chocolate babka and noodle kugel are other classic deli orders, at this place with an interior intended to evoke a 1940s diner." - Robert Sietsema

"Considering the neon-covered exterior and old-school name, the atmosphere inside Brooklyn Diner is surprisingly fancy—after all, it's helmed by the award-winning Chef de Oliveira. That said, classic meals are definitely the standouts: The chicken soup, macaroni & cheese, and giant lunch salads are reliably great, and you’ll have to arrive early in the day if you want to have the chicken pot pie (they almost always run out). Expect a short wait if you forget to make a reservation. There are two locations in Midtown, on 57th and 43rd."

I came here for dinner. Brooklyn Diner USA offers upscale comfort food with large portions, blending diner classics like hot dogs and chicken pot pie. Their chicken pot pie is their signature dish and sold out very quickly. The food I ordered all tasted delicious 😋. This place does get very packed and busy. Ordered: Appetizer: Pigs in a Blanket $16.00 Entree: Smashed French Dip Burger $23.95 + Backyard Burger $24.95 Drink: Pineapple Mojito $16.00

I came here for dinner with a friend yesterday. It’s an American diner, with authentic diner vibes with booth style seating and the food is incredible. It has such an amazing vibe that even when my friend and I were done eating we spent hours just talking and enjoying the comforting atmosphere! The staff was SO KIND truly amazing, they were attentive to every person and just so welcoming. Especially Gen!! She was so kind, had an amazing conversation with her. And not to mention my phone was dying and it was my only way to go home & she was kind enough to charge it throughout my entire dinner, she was truly an unmatched soul. The food was amazing and aesthetic, so absolutely perfect for pictures throughout the night. Just a lovely place to go with loved ones and have amazing conversations. I will DEFINITELY be going back.💗 If you’re in the area you have to check it out.

My best friend and I came for breakfast on the 6th of October. What can I say? Food, atmosphere, service, and the all-around experience were 100/10. The food was insane!! We are from the UK, so I really wanted to try proper diner coffee and proper American buttermilk pancakes and a proper American milkshake. I also, on a whim, decided to try the nova smoked salmon on the side, too! Nothing disappointed me. The pancakes were huge, fluffy, and very tasty. The strawberries were bursting with flavour, and the salmon was to die for. My best mate had the New Yorker breakfast, she said the sausage was the best she'd ever had! The milkshake and coffee were too also bloody delicious. The staff were so welcoming and really friendly, hearing stories from the manager made my day. Thank you for welcoming us two Brits into your establishment!!!

My sister ordered a 15-bite All-beef Frankfurter and I ordered a Chicken Pot Pie, we also ordered other delicious plates. When our orders came the dishes were very LARGE and appetizing! We tried to order hot apple cider but there was no more and then we tried to order some juices but they were all out. Other then that, the restaurant was scrumptious and nice.

Google
Classic diner close to Central Park. Quick afternoon bite, and had to have the chicken soup, and added the quinoa salad. Soup was predictably quite good, and the salad was excellent! Loving places like this, anywhere most any time, this will not disappoint!

Neighborhood staple, located on 57th street. The team is always incredibly friendly, and the menu has something for everyone. Brooklyn diner is a slightly elevated diner offering specialty cocktails.

If anyone asks me after this trip what a must do event is in NYC my response is going to be "Go to Brooklyn Diner and get a PotPie." Hopefully they get the chance to meet Guy and Jen because they made it such an unforgettable experience. Just genuinely friendly and lovely people. They talked to us a bit about the history of the place and had a bunch of cool knowledge. The food was amazing and I'll be thinking about the pot pie for a long time. The crust was so flaky and it had huge huge chunks of tender chicken. I couldn't believe how amazing it was. The 15-bite hotdog was crispy and garlicy. If you get it PUT THE SALAD ON IT! TASTY. BTW a side of fries IS HUGE! The service was amazing, the lively atmosphere is fantastic. The speed of service is great not a huge wait despite being a big crowd the first day we went. We loved it so much we went twice!!!! Honestly can't wait to make another trip to NYC.

Google
I visited here with my fiancé whilst visiting NYC before Christmas. We wanted the American diner experience and this met those expectations! Great atmosphere, fast service, friendly welcoming happy staff and lovely tasty food! They come round with water too. They have a great selection on the menu. Would recommend if visiting the area and would return if we came back to the city.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing yummmooooo highly recommended for the traditional American diner experience

Jerome K.

Yelp
Besides the great food, we love the wonderful service. All servers are great, but the best is Mimo... we always look for him. Pat and Jerry

Yelp
We saw this place in one of the top places you have to visit in nyc and it's honestly worth it. I will recommend you to get a reservation tho (we got it with one day in advance) I hate the fact of going for eggs to a diner when you can make those as good at home but there was something in this eggs that made them really good. The slice of bread that it's included feels homemade it was my favorite part ! I have no words for the pancakes, we're perfect and full of Nutella YUMMY!!! The place it's a common dinner, nothing fancy but cool for the experience. They will try to make you leave as soon as you finish since they have always waiting list plus reservation. I'll give this place a 9/10

J A A.

Yelp
Pastrami was bland, flavorless, too lean, and cold. Gross Cold slaw was beyond flavorless just terrible. One star because the staff is very nice. Also the french fries and the pickle were fine.

Yelp
Folks!! If you haven't been, you MUST visit the Brooklyn Diner! The food is amazingly delicious, and you can truly take my word for it, as this is the 6th+ time we've been, and will continue to plan on coming on a regular basis too! Upon entry we hope you are greeted by an amazing, gracious human being, Guy (restaurant manager), and seated at a table served by Saul, who is an amazing server (he's very attentive, professional with a friendly demeanor)! Truly, this place is filled with great people and great food! And the ambiance is absolutely amazing; very warm, welcoming and clean, you feel like you're at home with family! We ordered their hamburger special which was cooked as per my wife's request (most restaurants miss the mark; not here), and their "15-bite" hot dog with fresh sauerkraut, mustard and relish! All was polished off with a delicious Oreo milk shake, and a slice of THEE BEST coconut cake EVER! The cake just melts in your mouth, and has the right amount of sweetness! And the coconut shavings were so fresh we coulda sworn we were in Hawaii! BUT know this, it's a diner favorite served only on the weekend and sells out fast!! We'll see you all there! Guy! Table for two please!!

Yelp
I can't tell you how many times we've walked by the Brooklyn Diner on West 57th Street, just west of Carnegie Hall. Our friends asked us to join them for dinner and we were skeptical about their choice but we found their menu and entrees to be fantastic. Our waiter, Richie was incredibly helpful and made our dining experience to be memorable. We will definitely return soon. I had the Brooklyn Salad with salmon and the portion was huge and the salmon perfectly prepared! We shared their 8 inch chocolate chip cookie that was probably longer than 8 inches and DELICIOUS!

Kayla B.

Yelp
Brooklyn Diner is one of the best in the city! Lunch prices are definitely much better but their pastrami hash continues to hit it out of the park. I indicated a gluten allergy and they went out of their way to make it happen. The chocolate milk is very rich so definitely plan to share. Grabbing a table is never an issue. There's plenty of seating in the small establishment. It's nice mood lighting and perfect for conversation with friends!

Tania A.

Yelp
Stopped in for a very late breakfast so not sure if we got to see their full breakfast menu. First thing you notice is how friendly and welcoming the staff is. We were promptly seated we were a party of 4. Their tables are a little odd because they are like a half booth that only fits one person on each side and then the person next to that one sits on a regular chair. I ordered a cappuccino and my husband a hot chocolate. I must say not a fan of the hot chocolate. It tasted like melted chocolate in a mug. Way too sweet and thick. I know it said chocolate ganache but was not expecting that. For breakfast we ordered the buttermilk pancakes with scrambled eggs, and two eggs over medium with an everything bagel and a side of fruit. The food was decent. This was a good option from where we were staying.

Yelp
Fantastic diner experience at the Brooklyn Diner while visiting NYC for Thanksgiving weekend. Reminiscent of a classic American diner. The place is so cute and welcoming, our meal was great, and the staff were attentive and friendly. We dined mid-afternoon so we're seated quickly without a wait. My daughter and I had THE BEST chocolate milkshakes which went well with the burger and fries I had. Highly recommend!

Glenn C.

Yelp
I worked for Brooklyn Diner on 43th street for two years. I know their quality. I have to say that the 57th street location had good service very good food, but man were the drinks disappointing. They took their Brooklyn Cosmo off the menu for some reason. The cosmo I had was to tart and a little weak/watery. My friend and I switched to a standard margarita and that was also very tart.

Frank M.

Yelp
The waffle was.. so small and lacking any kind of taste. And also hard around the edges. The egg was ok. Had to ask twice for butter. The syrup was like smuckers but with less flavor. Saving grace: the bacon! I hope other menu items here aren't as bad as the waffle, but it's hard to tell, and I'm not sure I will.

J S.

Yelp
Brooklyn Diner has amazing ribs and fantastic service. We enjoyed an excellent dinner with friends and family here Saturday evening!! Dessert is exceptional as always.

Reiona A.

Yelp
I was greeted upon arrival. They were prompt to get me seated without a reservation. The atmosphere felt like a tv show with spotting a few celebrities while dining. The Chicken Pot Pie was delicious; with a spicy margarita to wash it down. I had underestimated the pie by thinking I would complete it in one sitting. Honestly, two people can split it and still be full. I would recommend this restaurant for their customer service and food quality. Crazy thing, I went back the next day for breakfast. The breakfast was filling and delicious.

Yelp
If you are staying in Times Square and have been traveling with a cranky family all day, this is your place. The food is incredible, amazing, and awesome for parents and perfect for kids. My husband and I both had a couple of drinks and my kiddos had really good pancakes and a grilled cheese. Our food was really delicious too. The place itself is so cute and the service is on point. I really loved this place and the food was absolutely incredible. Must try.

Desiree M.

Yelp
A superior diner located in the heart of Times Square! They serve all the breakfast classics, lunch options, milkshakes and booze! The Most Perfect French Toast is a must! The waffle sandwiches are also delicious. Chicken Pot Pie was also incredible! And you can't forget about the 15 bite hot dog! If you're still hungry, there's always the milkshakes; chocolate fudge, strawberry, vanilla, Oreo cookie

Leanne R.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! This place lived up to the hype. We our party of 5 ordered the Ruben sandwich, chicken pot pie, veggies burger, hot dog and chicken noodle soup. Everything tasted amazing and was served hot. Bonus points- They were seated us right away after seeing us walk in with our 85 year old mom. We were grateful not to have to wait outside in the cold with her. Thank you again! Wonderful service and the food was amazing!

Ashley D.

Yelp
Wide selection of foods to order. From breakfast to dinner and plenty of choices in between. Quite enjoyable even with the wait at particular times during the day. The staff makes sure that you find a suitable place and the kitchen is ready to prepare your selection. The staff have always been cordial throughout the years I've been there.

Karen S.

Yelp
This is our 2nd time back here. We went on a Friday afternoon, the week after Christmas. We had about. 30 min wait, which was to be expected. We enjoyed the service. I even think we had the same waiter from 4 years ago. My hubby commented on how all the staff work together, there wasn't any "let me get your server." The food was good. My husband had the pastrami Reuben and said it was the best he's had, the meat was incredibly tender. I had the usual scrambled eggs/bacon/waffle. The waffle was very light and fluffy. We saw the table next to us get the chicken pot pie. It was the size of her head. I really want to try the hamburgers. They looked amazing. If you're near Central Park, I'd give them a go.

Al R.

Yelp
Great location, super nice staff. The food was average, small selection of breakfast items, and the prices seemed a little high even for Mid-town Ma

Jerry K.

Yelp
The food is great but so is the service. Especially if you get lucky to get Mimo! He will remember you even if it's months apart between visits. Warm and full of life place.

Kathy G.

Yelp
Hangin with Kristen and Christian in NYC! Of course we walked to a diner from the hotel!! ;) Stayed at Conrad, this place is close. Fast service. Good Food.

JoAnn A.

Yelp
This is my local diner, and the food is pretty decent. I like the mediterranean salad option and the desserts. If you've got picky eaters with you, I'm sure you can find something to please them here. The ambience is nice and you can't beat the location. Some of the decor is ... interesting. Like most of it is upscale diner signage, with small plaques at booths for regulars. But by the bathroom there is a giant butt sculpture on a pedestal, ambiguous in nature but presented with great ceremony. That kind of aesthetic confidence is enough for me to recommend this place -- you can ponder the sculpture's origins while eating your eggs.

Theodore B.

Yelp
Sebastian's service was outstanding -- absolute class. He was extremely attentive while providing delicious food. The entire staff was also very accommodating and contributed to an amazing atmosphere. Delicious milkshakes too!

Greg S.

Yelp
The servers are nice and the food is fine, but the portions are tiny and the prices way too high. This omelette was $27. And where's the other half of the home fries?

Robert S.

Yelp
I showed up at the end of the day and said I needed a chicken soup to feel better and the host, who's been there for years, made sure that I was well taken care of. The food was absolutely wonderful. The chicken soup was terrific and I can't recommend any place better in Manhattan for chicken soup. I like the Brooklyn Diner. I a great place to eat at the end of the day as a unique atmosphere to relax.

Kristina A.

Yelp
This place is quaint! We got right in around 9a without reservations (table for 2). It's very small inside but has an OG diner feel to it. The waiter took awhile to come by but he was nice once he got to us! The plate I got wasn't anything special. It was all good, the bagel was fresh (just hard to chew), and it hit the spot! Been there done that, no reason really to come back when we've got so many other great places to try :)

David E.

Yelp
It was very busy (as restaurants in Times Square tend to be). I wish I remember the bartender's name but he was really cool and despite being busy, kept a conversation going. I ordered a burger which was really good. I'd definitely go back and I'd def recommend this restaurant.

Jerrod B.

Yelp
We chose the Brooklyn Diner due to its proximity to the Town Hall for a show we were seeing that evening. We called ahead for a table for 6. Upon arrival, the hostess greeted us and asked for our name. The table was available for us right away. We were immediately given bottles of tap water and glasses and asked for our drink order. We ordered wet vodka martinis with olives, and they were delicious. The olives are nice and plump, perfect for a martini. My only gripe about this restaurant is that the menu is a bit small, and the prices pretty high (think - $23 for a hot dog). I ordered from the "breakfast all day menu" and the food was delicious. I was in the mood for a BLT, but there's no BLT on the menu. All in all I was happy with my selection and happy with the food. However, when I think NYC Diner, I think of endless selections of diner foods.

Ashley S.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday after passing by some other places that were obviously way too busy. I wanted pancakes, but they don't serve those at lunch. So we settled for waffles, which come with eggs cooked to order and bacon. I requested no bacon (but the kitchen accidentally included it anyway). We sat outside which was quite peaceful. I have to say - they served me the best over easy fried eggs I've ever had. The coffee is good, not too strong and not weak. The waffles were good, not exceptional. We appreciated the complimentary water. The service here is FAST so that's also helpful if you're in a hurry. Our food was served so quickly we didn't think to take pictures.

Tom L.

Yelp
You know, we love coming to New York. And when we first arrive we seldom get much of anything to eat at the airport and even less on the plane. So after we get checked into the hotel we usually have an appetite. This time we found ourselves in The Brooklyn Diner after a referral from our concierge. nice place, nicely appointed, not crowded at 3:30 in the afternoon. Despite our appetites we ordered a small nibble--I had chicken soup and partner had Caesar salad. The meals were very good, but getting it was not easy. When we first entered the waiter asked for our drink order--water for each of us. At that point I think he dismissed us. It took him ten minutes to return to our table and that was after asking another server if we could order! The heart of the matter: service is important! The food can be the best on the planet , but if the service lacks effectiveness, it certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Mark W.

Yelp
Super Guillermo - the best server in Manhattan. Thank you a great NY experience. Bought the family here and had great food and great coffe.

Gigi M.

Yelp
Ok. Came back for breakfast. It was one of the best breakfasts we have had in a while. Hot coffee flowing. Door greeter that seated us today and on Thanksgiving made us feel so welcome, like long time friend. They seem so genuinely happy that you came. All four breakfasts ranging from pancakes or waffles to eggs and bacon were excellent and served hot. Some of the best bacon we have ever had. Conveniently located to the Central Park and West 57th area, you can't go wrong and modestly priced.

Eric C.

Yelp
The good: Delicious food Great service with fast food prep Ample seating (although NYC close) The bad: Expensive!!! Burgers are $22. Yep No kid menu. Seriously? You're in a super touristy area Probably more of a 3.5 stars but if pushed 3.

Albert Z.

Yelp
Good, not great. Biggest hot dog I ever had. Left feeling full. Overpriced for what you get. Service was very good.

Lori D.

Yelp
This diner was good not great but that maybe due to my personal tastes. I like hash browns or breakfast potatoes not corn polenta fritters. I had the omelette and I could do without the herbs. Coffee was ok. Bacon was tasty and Crispy. We made reservations for 9:15am via Resy on a Saturday. Our table was ready and waiting for us. We had a small two person booth. This place isn't very big. Just like others have said, this place is expensive for breakfast. The prices of this breakfast should have more options like Creme brûlée French toast, lobster Benedict, some sort of beef hash, even filet and eggs. I had my son and I with basic breakfast, $85. It was more than dinner options. So that's why I docked it a star and no breakfast potatoes. I would look for other options if staying in this area. Not bad but I think I deserve really over the top options if I have these prices.

Brooke H.

Yelp
Great traditional NYC diner right in Times Square. We grabbed a reservation online but wouldn't have needed one when we arrived at 9:30am. I had the Pastrami Hash and it was awesome. Fried polenta with marinara were served as sides, which was new for me. Friendly service, great food, and great location if you are staying near Times Square.

Bill E.

Yelp
It may be a diner, but this food is amazing... You have to try the chicken pot pie... Best ever anywhere!

April L.

Yelp
Great service. No long wait. I entered and asked for a table for 2 around 12:30pm on a weekday. All tables seemed full; this must be a popular lunch spot. I waited about 5min before being shown a table. Service was attentive and kind. Chocolate shake 4/5 it just wasn't in a taller bigger glass than I expected like the picture. It was good though. Noodle kugle 4/5 if you'd never had it before it'll blow your mind, but it was what I expected it to be. Burger 5/5 it looks simple but it was surprisingly more tasty than expected Burrito 4/5 full of fillings. It was good. The lunch menu was alot smaller than expected of a diner.

Gajtana S.

Yelp
Shopping brought me to the area and I was feeling a little peckish. I've passed by this diner in the middle of an upscale part of Manhattan and never eaten here, until now. They bill themselves as a "fancy diner" and based on my experience, they are. They are half American diner and half Parisian cafe. They have a simple American diner menu of comfort foods and more interesting wine, cocktail and non alcoholic beverages. Their tap water comes in a fancy wine looking bottle with a cap. Their burger and fries are heralded on the menu. The burger is huge and quite flavorful, seated on a brioche bun. Their fries are more like hand cut French "frites" with a dash of salt and lots of fresh potato flavor. I sat outside- the seating, replete with flowers was reminiscent of a French cafe. The service was excellent- five star- warm, friendly and efficient. So, essentially American comfort food and service with French style. They offer a veggie burger and other veggie options for non-carnivores. Reasonable pricing especially for the area.

Hadley B.

Yelp
Every time that I am in New York I make a point to stop here. It is some of the best quick-service food you can find in New York. It was so quick the last time I went, that I ordered and got my food within five minutes (no joke). Their pot pies are SO good, but so is everything on the menu. It is in a great location and easily walkable to the Broadway shows. All the staff members are nice and it has a great atmosphere.

Bobby H.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to eat with young children, this is not it! The hostess and waiter were super rude about not wanting us to bring a stroller into their half empty restaurant with plenty of space. They even tried to move the stroller from our table OUTSIDE while we were already eating! That hostess was either the grinch, or never had any children in her family. Other than that, food was pretty solid and the waiter was very friendly (and clearly embarrassed by the other staff).

Joy Ann G.

Yelp
Delicious! Great time with fun and efficient wait staff. Thank you! Hhhhhhhcxdggdsdgh

Christopher F.

Yelp
Love the ambiance. Love the service. Love the food. The host was fun from the second we walked in. He moved some tables around and found us space to east right away. I had a cup of the euros famous soup. So hearty and delicious I could've stopped there but I didn't. The server convinced me to have the pot pie. Rick, creamy and delicious with massive chunks of chicken. The dish should be shared. I only ate about half. Don't miss a chance to eat here when in the city.

Daniel L.

Yelp
This is honestly is the best small business diner I've ever been to in new york the food was good the waitress was nice but there is so much people there it took 20 minutes to wait to get in but other than that it was awesome thanks for that good breakfast

Maclain M.

Yelp
Eating at this establishment has been an absolute delight and the highlight of my week. With excellent service and delectable food, this diner is an exceptional location to enjoy some breakfast. Special thanks to the manager and our server Chris.

Tyler L.

Yelp
Located right near Central Park, some of the other reviews call this place a tourist trap. I can definitely see why. Firstly, despite being called Brooklyn Diner, it is not from Brooklyn. They have two locations in midtown Manhattan (Times Square is the other) and even the old school design with neon colors is meant to draw in tourists. This place was not that bad though. The large outdoor seating is what drew us here. The food was okay too. We had some burgers with fries and a chicken salad. The burgers were actually decent. They were average in size but the meat was very juicy. Everything is definitely overpriced though, and the menu is poor for a diner. It is very limited and is basically sandwiches, burgers, salads, hot dogs, breakfast, and drinks. You will not find meatloaf, pasta, gyro or other typical offerings. Of course, if you were looking for a real diner, you shouldn't be looking in this area.

Jacob F.

Yelp
Held a business meeting with a client here. What a great experience it was. Food was warm, fast and the the service was great. The manager Yusuf was so kind and made sure to ask us if the service met our expectations. I hardly ever get a manager to ask me that at a restaurant anymore.

K. T.

Yelp
Caesar salad with chicken was phenomenal and just what we needed after a long day of shopping. Got shitfaced on two margaritas and had a lovely time. Staff were so kind and attentive. Will definitely be back

Shannon L.

Yelp
Walked just around the corner from our hotel in NYC to this gem of a place! It's an old school diner that tucked in the perfect place in New York! The service was spot on and they never let my coffee cold or close to empty! The food is just what you would expect from a diner in the heart of the city.

John B.

Yelp
I needed some French Toast before I left NY. This was the closest place to the hotel that I found. We were fortunate enough to be the last walk-in to immediately be seated. Everyone after us had to wait. The gentleman who greeted and sat us down was very hospitable. Definitely wasn't your typical diner for 2 main reasons. 1. The menu didn't have as much to choose from as your typical diner. 2. It was pricier than your typical diner. The bacon was good and you do get a nice sized portion. However, the French toast was just ok. I could've done without the pecans and I love French Toast. Too bad they don't have just plain French toast on the menu. Overall, it wasn't bad but I wouldn't return.
