"Brews and Brunch Opened in a brick-walled space that used to be a favorite local bookstore, Brewtown is the latest venture by Simon Triggs and Charles Cameron, who met while working as managers for the coffee company Toby Estate. The coffee is what you'd expect from two industry veterans—well-executed espresso drinks made using a computerized machine and filter coffee served hot, brewed, or cold and poured from a tap. But the food is somewhat surprising for a small, coffee-focused place. For breakfast, there's polenta with mushrooms and poached eggs, beet-cured trout served on rye toast that's smattered with avocado and feta, and house-made "cronuts"—a cross between a doughnut and a croissant, imported from New York and earning a cult following here. There's also a retail space run by Triggs' wife upstairs, which has plans for an affogato bar."

"On a sleepy side street off King Street, Newtown’s main restaurant and bar drag, Brewtown Coffee Roasters occupies a late-19th-century brick warehouse, with a spacious industrial-chic café on the ground floor and a roastery and bakery upstairs. Speciality coffee is the name of the game, sourced directly, roasted on-site, and served black or with milk, decaf, soy, or strong. There are also iced coffee, cold brew, batch brew, and steampunk options. Non-java drinkers can rehydrate with teas, OJ, green juice, kombucha, and lemon squash." - Sophie Davies

If you’re a coffee lover from Melbourne who’s moved to Sydney and still hasn’t found a cafe that feels just right, try here, This place has been around for a long time and is well-known for both its coffee and exceptional pastries. In fact, this place was one of the first places in Australia to serve cronuts—a delightful fusion between a croissant and a donut. The atmosphere here is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for chilling out with a favorite cup of coffee in hand. They roast their own coffee beans. Their bakery menu is also worth exploring, especially the cronuts, which are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.

Me and my partner come here most days for our morning coffee after I tried all our local cafes, I chose this one~ purely because it is the best coffee I’ve had in my entire life. For reference I’ve previously been a café manager and I’ve spend a lot of my working career teaching people how to make coffee. In my professional coffee career I’ve never had coffee this good. I also came here once with my dad to dine-in and try the food and that was quite good too, with excellent table service. Highly recommend!!!

It’s been a few years since I last ate at Brewtown. It’s not quite as busy as it used to be and the menu has changed. Good range of food on the menu. It was quite hard to get the attention of the staff to add to our order because there were only two of them that day. The food is still good and the coffee is nice. Quite a pricey cafe in my opinion.

Was a little unsure as cafe had 4.1 stars when we came but really think deserves more so leaving this reviw! Food was so good (got the polenta and French toast), coffee was delightful, and service quick and warm. Loved the space too as we came with our bub in pram.

Stopped for a coffee while exploring Newtown. Their latte was smooth and crema with good aroma of coffee. Brewtown smashes it! They also have lots of space and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely brunch or afternoon coffee. Most definitely be back again!

New Review: Unfortunately this was a little worse than last time even. The menu is very mediocre (and small) and the atmosphere is poor. For a place in Newtown, this is on the low end of what’s available around the area. It also felt a little dirty (couch chairs and the exposed part behind the counter). The young lady on service was great though! Old Review (4 Years Ago): A little disappointed with Brewtown this time, unfortunately. I have been here in the past, from memory I had a crab breakfast and it was amazing. This time, I was a little underwhelmed. We had the Corned Beef Hash and the Scottish Sausage B&E Roll (I think that’s the name). Unfortunately the corned beef was a little dry and the B&E roll was quite salty. Overall disappointing unfortunately. Everyone should still give it a try though, maybe I’m just unlucky!?

Good latte and delicious food. A comfortable place to relax and chat with friends.

We decided to check this place out for a brunch visit. It's located in a side alley in Newtown, so if you didn't have Google Maps or a mobile device it would be a bit hard to find. The decor looked quite rustic inside and outside and gives the place a certain flair. We ordered the Haloumi Panini and Breakfast Roll (see photos of food and menu for reference). The Panini bread was a bit tough/hard where the use of utensils provided was counterintuitive. Taste wise, it was quite heavy on the basil but mixed alright with the Haloumi slices. The Breakfast Roll came on a soft milk bun but the sizing for the price was a bit overpriced. I really wanted to try the Philli Cheese Steak but apparently it wasn't available that morning. Staff were very attentive and approachable. Some side notes / comments: (1) the toilets could use with a nice clean, the men's bathroom at the very least had a pungent and unpleasant smell - if not for the benefit for customers, the staff would enjoy a deep clean as well; (2) weekend surcharges applied for our order, only found out after going to the counter and looking at the fine print of the menu upon payment.

Yelp
We've been back a few times since my original review and while the menu has changed (no more black sausage), this is still a cute little place in Newtown worth a visit.

Yelp
Searched this place out because of a blog post I read. Cool industrial brick decor. Great food and excellent coffee.

Yelp
After reading all the reviews for this place I had to experience it for myself. The wait for a table was OK and I ordered a take away coffee to sip on until my table was ready. The wait staff are friendly and very obliging. I ordered the much talked about grilled black sausage served on eggplant puree and decorated with a fennel and navel orange salad ($16). I added a poached egg ($4.50) which I thought was pricey for an egg and a side serving of Canadian bacon and Hash Browns ($9). Delicious food but overpriced @ $29.50 for a breakfast dish. The meal was well presented and tasty. Now for the Cronuts. These were exceptional and I have never tasted better. I sampled the Salted Caramel and Macadamia Cronut and the Lychee Rose Cronut and now I want more.

Yelp
Alright, alright, alright. I hear your cries of outrage when I say I've never been here before. Arguably one of Sydney's most famous cafes and I've never stepped foot into it (and I call myself a foodie! Haha). I answered your calls and dragged my foodie buddy with me (best take one - you'll need help sharing the brewnuts aka cronuts). The decor is modern and hip whilst service is prompt. They serve you carbonated water haha! Good start. Food was quite pricey, I felt, for cafe brekkie brunch stuff (ranges from $13-$18/20). But maybe that's because I'm stuck in the naughties era where everything was cheaper! I ordered the slow cooked brisket on toast with poached eggs and onions and mushrooms. Love the meat's flavour they've got going. Eggs perfectly cooked. We also got the avo bagel with beetroot which was nice was well. Flavours work well together. My friend caved and ordered hot chips - best decision of the day. The brewnuts - here's where the buddy system comes into play. Share the bloody thing. It's so decadent! We got the lemon merengue one which was super tasty and had a nice tartness and tang to it. The Nutella and chocolate ones looked way to lush! Would need to smash that on an empty stomach. Will visit here again - this place represents the Australian cafe culture! And sad face because the Elvis Burger was no longer on the menu :(

Kim B.

Yelp
Pretty nice place! Great coffee, and the food is okay (don't expect fantastically well prepared options - more like simple and decent enough). You sometimes have to fight for service a little bit.

Yelp
One of my first food stops in Sydney. Having tried cronuts and cruffins in the East and West Coast of America. I wanted to see what the Aussies could cook up in the Golden Coast. I was pretty impressed with the 16 different flavors of cronuts/cruffins they bake each day. However after trying 4 different flavors (Red Velvet, Boston cream, Orange spice & custard and Chocolate Lavender) I wasn't impressed anymore. Mr. Holmes and Dominique Ansel preserves the meaning of quality over quantity. This is not reflected at Brewtown Newtown. Nearly all their pastries lacked a heavy dose of cream. The cronuts did not even have real layers of croissant in between. The cruffins weren't flaky enough. Sure it was covered in sugar but it was missing that sweet spot (literally). The taste wasn't quite there yet. I also got to try something I've never seen before and to be honest I'm a bit embarassed I ate something so sinfully disgusting. The Elvis burger. I have no idea why it's called that and I don't think this is in anyway a rock star burger. It's basically a burger with plain cronuts as the buns. The moment I took a bite I could feel the heart attack I'm getting when I turn 85. I tasted every drop of oil that was soaked the cronuts and the beef patty from the fryer. Elvis Burger, you won the award for the most disgusting thing I ate in 2015. Do I regret it? A little. Was it good? Kinda. Would I do it again? Probably not, I clogged enough arteries already. P.S. They also have a ridiculously long wait for brunch, I ended up getting take away. This place is kind of overhyped, given it's predictable location (the hipster neighborhood of Sydney.)

Yelp
Fact of the day: Cronuts (croissant donuts) were invented in NYC by Dominique Ansel, while Cruffins (croissant muffins) are an Australian invention from Melbourne by Kate Reid. At first glance, I was blown away by the sheer amount of Cronuts and Cruffins on display here. There were no less than 16 flavors to choose from. Naturally, I wanted to try all of them, but I limited myself to just 4, which probably already pushed me past my daily calorie intake (at 11 am, no less). However, that was where the positive vibes ended. Quantity over quality - the mantra struck me repeatedly me with each bite I took into the pastries I ordered. Many of the things I have come to love about Cronuts and Cruffins were missing. The layers in the Cronut were improperly done, and it was lacking in the cream department (what Boston Cream?!). They were even stingier with the Cruffin cream, the smidgen of cream you see sticking out the top is all you get! That made every bite into the Cruffins more disappointing than the last. Call me elitist, but there is good reason that Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC and Mr. Holmes Bakehouse in SF only serve one Cronut/Cruffin flavor per day, and in limited quantities (usually sold out by 9 am). What Brewtown needs is some serious competition from other bakeries, or it will rest on the laurels of its 4-5 star reviews and continue to produce subpar pastries. Oh, I also ordered the Elvis burger - basically a burger with Cronuts for buns. Sinful, yes. Worth the calories, no. But I must give credit where it is due, and it gets 3 stars for being a decent burger. 2 stars for the Cronuts, and 1 lousy star for the lousy Cruffins average this review down to 2 stars. TLDR: Don't come here if you've had Cronuts and Cruffins from NYC or SF. Elvis Burger is not bad.

Yelp
Really good ambience and music, there's even a little bakery upstairs and the food was delicious

Yelp
This place has become a destination and urban legend in the newtown area however I think that traveling down the lesser traveled path will lead you to tastier fairs in newtown. Be prepared for a wait of you are here over the weekend. The food is what keeps bringing me back despite the sullen looks from the wait staff, the noise of the cafe and the 'arnt we cool' attitudes of the other patrons. The food can be great - the zucchini flowers are well worth trying and the coffee is pretty consistent. Be prepared to pay the price for dining at this urban legend - 6$ a cronut, breakfasts towards 20$ and if you are temped to have any extras...$$$$

Yelp
Hooray! I'm probably one of the last people to visit this famous joint! Famous for the cronut and cruffin creations! And boy they did not disappoint! For lunch I got the special which was jamon, minty peas, poached eggs with fennel and apple salad on sourdough. It was ok, needed salt which was provided on the table. My mate got the chicken baguette with walnut and she advise it had wayyy to much mayonnaise that she couldnt really enjoy it. I had high expectations for the coffee so i got a piccolo and it tasted burnt! Sad face! The red velvet cronut and the nutella cruffin were pretty dang good! The cronuts were more a 5/5 and the food 3/5 so a three star seems suitable!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try their Elvis Burger since Ben recommended it. Finally the time comes, and it's definitely lived up to its reputation. The tasty beef patty and bacon with the goodness of melted Gruyere and mayo on a CRONUT, served with chips and relish are exactly what foodie dreams are made of. I also tried the Linguini with Garlic Chilli Prawn, Kale and Parmesan. The dish was full of flavour and wonderfully balance. The pasta was handmade and al dente. The prawns were fresh, and the balance of garlic, chilli and Parmesan complements the dish and everything just comes together. Then the Cronuts, oh sweet Cronuts! I've been coming to this place for the Cronuts, with their Nutella filled Cronut being my favourite. So popular are these things that they have dedicated their own little cafe slash pastry kitchen serving Cronuts on the second floor. They're located on a quiet and hidden laneway off the bustling King Street in a converted two-storey warehouse. There's also an airy retail space on the second floor selling homewares and clothing by local designers. With a relax atmosphere, friendly staff and good service there's no reason for me not to come back. The price is very reasonable, definitely good value for money!

Eric L.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite places to brunch at on a lazy Sunday. Food and coffee here is great. The cronuts are to die for. I would suggest coming here a bit earlier unless you want to wait in line for a long time. Be sure to order the salted caramel and popcorn cronut!

Lilly M.

Yelp
We loved this cafe. Cute atmosphere and really good coffee and breakfast. We got the breakfast roll and Belgian waffle and both were delicious!

Mic W.

Yelp
For no other reason but... I just really like this place. People pretend they come in here for the food... but really it's the coffee and pastries. Especially the cronuts which seem to be always coming out in a new assortment. Thankfully I come at the end of the day when there are restrictions on what is left... otherwise... One of each thanks!! ;) It's quite spacious and has long or large tables that make it easy for a group to pop in for a cuppa. Staff are friendly and accomodating. It can be difficult to get a park near by so keep that in mind if you are running to a schedule.

Jenny X.

Yelp
I absolutely love the atmosphere at this cafe, they even have a store upstairs. However I found their food selection somewhat limited and a little pricey. I went with their avo toast with stuffed zucchini flower. Although it tasted great, it wasn't particularly filling. Luckily there are so many restaurants and cafes nearby, my friend and I were able to satiate our hunger quite easily. Since I'm from out of town, I made plans to try other places nearby. If I hadn't I would've definitely gotten one of their cronuts and coffee, which all looked amazing.

Owais H.

Yelp
A long line outside this eatery on a Sunday morning is proof enough of how good the food is. Going in for the first time - check out their specials or choose from their regulars, Brewtown, unlike its name, serves more than just coffee. The breakfast menu is simple and effective, The coffee, rich and smooth. I had my regular mocha and that was something. The waffles with belgian chocolate I had were so good and enough to make me a five year old on a sugar rush. For this sinfully healthy place, I am so going back soon for another brunch.

Benjamin B.

Yelp
Gurgle. That's all I have after eating here yesterday. Still sitting here semi-comatose with my chin on my chest and drool staining my knitted sweater. There were healthy items on the menu, of course, and I paid them lip service by slugging back the giant green breakfast juice (refreshing, delicious, green), but I was here to ruin myself with something tasty and terrible, and The Elvis Burger jumped out at me and practically shoved it's greasy goodness down my throat. So, the first thing: it's served on a savoury cronut (AKA a brewnut, because propietary). The patty is juicy as hell, son. And it's smothered in melted gruyere. When the waitress put it down I thought "well that's a pretty small burgy, wasn't Elvis huge, at least in his later years?" but after demolishing it I realised it had been the perfect size after all. And it was accompanied by logs of giant fluffy hot chips and some kind of home-made relish that I ended up wearing out of there like lipstick. The rest of the menu awaits me. Soon.

Yelp
Brewtown Newtown is the sister cafe of Gnome (Nom) Cafe in Surry Hills...and true to its name they do a great cup of coffee. As Peter said, the takeaway coffee is peculiarly small, looks like a 6oz cup for whatever reason, while the sit down coffee I had was normal size. Get ready to queue up since this place was packed with hipsters and Asians. We waited about 30 min for a table for 4 for lunch. Worth the wait? Yes and No... It seems like the food was hit or miss for the people in my party. I got the Elvis Burger (cronut burger) which unless you don't mind feeling gross for an hour, is what you should order for a coronary artery workout. Seriously, cronut + bacon + beef + cheese+ mayo? A bite of this is rich, delicious, heavy, and full of regret at the same time. The black sausage brekkie got the half thumbs up, the poached chicken salad with quinoa got two thumbs up, and the baked polenta got the thumbs down as it was bland and undercooked. We also ordered a jam cronut and glazed cronut...cronut overkill, yes. The cronuts here are pretty great though...maybe cause they were pretty fresh. They were moist, warm, juicy and...I'm still talking about cronuts, yes. The cronut here is better than the ones I've had at Zumbo, so there's that. Come here for the coffee and the cronuts, but choose your meal wisely.

David O.

Yelp
After reading several reviews and examining the online menu, I was happily lured to enjoy a late breakfast. I decided on the 'Grilled black sausage' with two additional poached eggs. The cost per egg is $4.50 which I find to be over priced - I mean come on guys, it's not a golden egg. Adding Canadian bacon and hash browns to share with a friend, also added an extra $9.00 between two people. All up, my breakfast cost $29.50! Although I really enjoyed my meal, it did make it a bit (a lot) expensive. The meal size was generous even without the eggs, but what is breakfast without eggs? The upside is that the from the moment you walk in, the wait staff are very friendly and there is only a 15 minute wait. The restaurant is spacious with ample seating and a great atmosphere. You receive complimentary sparkling water, which was fantastic. I have to say the food quality and service was excellent. Further more, I couldn't resist leaving without getting a Salted Caramel (with Macadamia nuts) and a Lychee Rose cronut to takeaway. They both tasted amazing and satisfied my sweet tooth - like wanting to have more!

Georg N.

Yelp
Went there for breakfast recently. We checked in then the manager guy told us to come in but didn't show us to a table so we just picked one of 5 open ones. Water guy came out and gave us water we said thanks. Then manager guy came over and said that table was taken and moved us somewhere else. Then manager guy went into the kitchen and yelled at the water guy and called him "a fucking idiot". Then came back to me. I told manager guy that it wasn't the water guys fault that we sat in the wrong place it was his fault for not showing us our table. Then I said him calling his employee an idiot made me feel uncomfortable and wasn't appropriate. Then manager guy said "oh that's nothing he usually gets way worse than that". So it was super awkward and we just left. Food is pretty good but I don't want to support toxic bullshit like that.

Yelp
I have read lots of things about the famous Cronut. A combination of a croissant and a donut. That's a wicked combination. Having researched it and pinpointing a location to where to get one. That spot is Brewtown Newtown. I have heard the place is good but today I was only after a Cronut. Can't help but be impressed by busy crowds waiting outside the store. The cafe looks very exciting and as you walk in the door you see the exciting Cronut/Brewnut. The Cronut/Brewnut comes in lots of different options blood orange , tiramisu, ricotta , Nutella , lemon puff. I got excited and my friend and I got tiramisu, ricotta , Nutella and salted Caramel. The salted caramel was first up. It was topped with real popcorn and the first bite reminded me of the freshly baked croissants of Paris. The Cronut was full with salted caramel cream. It was a little rich for me. Next up was Nutella . This was the perfect combination for me. I love Nutella and this was a combo that worked stupendously well. Although got to say I don't think Nutella can go wrong with anything. I was literally exploding at this point and only managed to sample the tiramisu. It was to a high standard too but couldn't manage more then a sliver of it. I decided to share the love and give the rest to one of my friends although giving away such a beauty was hard to do.

Yelp
Hailing from Melbourne, I always find myself comparing cafes in other cities to the calibre of what can be found in Melbourne's unique and industry-leading speciality coffee scene. These can be largely categorised as "normal" cafes (in lieu of a better word) and food cafes. The rhythmically named Brewtown Newtown is the perfect example of a Melbourne food cafe, but in Sydney. Warehouse-style with exposed structural beams and brickwork, chalk specials boards and tucked down a side street, it fits the description well. Seating is a mixture of bar seating, small tables and benches along the opposite wall. There are also tables outside. The cafe has an industrial yet refined and welcoming feel to it. The food menu consists of a range of breakfast and lunch options with some creative, restaurant quality twists on the usual suspects. Standouts include the corned beef hash with peas and poached egg, smoked salmon with curried Israeli couscous and squid ink linguine with garlic chilli prawns and kale. On this visit I ordered the Elvis burger, a ground beef patty with gruyere cheese, Canadian bacon and mayo, savoury brewnut and chips and relish on the side. One may quickly spot the odd word out in the previous sentence, brewnut. A brewnut is Brewtown's take on the ever growing cronut trend; a cross between a croissant and a donut. In the case of this burger, two savoury brewnuts form the top and bottom buns. This is an interesting and refreshing addition with a nice flakey crunch. Although the contents of the burger minimal, the melting gruyere and flavoursome bacon are all that is necessary. Coffee was on point and is to be expected from a cafe that has micro roastery, a range of single origin espresso and filter options are on offer. Intrigued by the whole cronut thing, I couldn't help having a flavoured cronut as an after-lunch snack. A selection of flavours were displayed on the glass shelving, today's was glazed, cinnamon, lemon myrtle, passionfruit and blood orange. It is easy to see why cronuts are so popular, think a regular flavoured donut but with a curiously addictive crunchy texture. The downside is that they are notoriously messy, judging by the pastry flakes I left everywhere. Situated in the bustling Newtown shopping and food strip, Brewtown Newtown is a great, popular food cafe reminiscent of Melbourne creativity and design.

Ferdinand W.

Yelp
Yesterday Lunch was great, since I was craving for cronuts for sometimes now, I decided to have "Elvis" burger, ground beef patties, Canadian bacon, on savory cronuts, chutney and chips This modern presentation taken old interpretation of old burger to new level. It's worth to try.

Karen S.

Yelp
I didn't get around to reviewing this place after we visited and I slap myself for not getting to it sooner. Because it deserves attention. Visiting the hip, funky Newtown was like taking a walk through a bigger West End in Brisbane. And using my Beanhunter app to find a decent coffee, we took off in search of this place. Thankfully away from the busy main street, down a side street you come across the two storey warehouse entrance. It oozes charm, ambience and bucket loads of character. It's obvious to us that locals love this place. Because at 2.30 pm in the afternoon it was packed! We weren't there for lunch (bugger because the food going past looked amazing) We wanted a decent, strong inner city Sydney coffee. And to that point we hadn't found one closer to the cbd. Staff were super attentive and friendly, laid back and full of smiles. Nice considering how busy they were. We got sat at one of the few free tables and enjoyed the high ceilings, the unique fitout and the food going past. Two coffees and one of the delicious, tempting cronuts on the counter. And quite quickly after....we were in heaven. Cronuts were sticky, sweet, fluffy, tacky, delicious! Flat whites were rich, dark, bold, robust and perfectly extracted. From beans roasted upstairs! The cups were cute too. If only we were in Sydney for longer this place would have been a definate 'get back to for lunch destination' Overall, we left after paying the bill with a friendly wave and smile from the staff...saying 'see you next time we come down' AND we will!! Love it :D

Olivia L.

Yelp
I will definitely call this one of my fave cafes when I visit Sydney, for the ridiculously indulgent food and beautiful service. I thought Melbs had the best brekkies, but it seems Sydneysiders do it with no waistline in mind. Viva la Sydney!

Luke C.

Yelp
Out of all the places I have visited in Sydney, Brewtown is the hottest place in town. At any weekend day, you will be sure to find at least four other tables in front you that had the same desire as you. At my first attempt there, the queue was so long that people were waiting across the road, I gave up and left with cronuts as a consolation prize. The time I did get in, was at 8:45am and the wait time was already 10 min. The layout is compact with large communal tables, bar seats and smaller two-seaters. I think the layout is non-functional for people wanting coffee-to-go and cronuts to take-away have to go quite deep into the counter area which is often obstructed by the dine-in queue. MINI EGG BENEDICT BRIOCHE ROLL $8.5 If you're not the big brekky kind of person. This mini bun is just the right size also if you're more of a sweet tooth and a fan of cronuts afterwards. The egg was cooked perfectly, with all the ingredients in harmony and it offered more of a gentle wake up in terms of flavours. GRILLED BLACK SAUSAGE HOME MADE HASH BROWNS, CANADIAN BACON AND HOUSE RELISH WITH BOILED EGGS $16 Beautifully presented dish, the main element of this dish, the black sausage is to die for. All together great mixture of textures and flavours. If you have a big appetite this is surely not enough. CRONUTS & COFFEE The coffee is well above average. My personal favourite is the jam one but all are worth trying. Chocolate is the newest addition to the family of flavours and its pretty good, but the jam one still is the best one for me as it brings some moisture and another level of texture. Conclusion Spectacular breakfast, I can't wait to come again for their lunch time menu. The cronuts are good but the star of the show are the dishes on the menu especially the Black Sausage dish. It is well-priced for the quality on offer. @thesydneynoob

Yelp
Brilliant breakfast! I had the corn and zucchini fritters, sooo delicious. Macadamia milk hottie, yum! Friendly service and the food came promptly. Friends really enjoyed their food too! Good vibe and the pastries are amazing also. May have indulged just a little

Fiona E.

Yelp
Good value, service and food! The cronuts looked amazing too, though I didn't take the opportunity to try one...watching the waistline ;) cool warehouse decor too.

Elaine L.

Yelp
The cronut craze has been going on for a while now, but I only just caught up to it recently and had my first bite of this sinful creation recently. [Photo] Elvis burger (ground beef, savory cronut, canadian bacon, gruyere and mayo served with chips and relish), $16.5. Elvis burger is definitely not your ordinary burger because the bun is actually a cronut! The size of the burger was on the smaller end but the thick and delicious hand-cut chips made up for it. The relish tasted fresh and flavourful, and went really well with the chips. However, I don't think I'll ever order this again as the overall experience was, as I had expected, a bit too oily for me. But it was definitely something different and worth a try for the first-timers or big-time cronut lovers.

Tanya T.

Yelp
I decided to have brunch here at Brewtown with a friend, first time customers and the staff were actually friendly and told us it will be a 15 minutes wait for a table. We ended up getting a table earlier than we thought so for my first experience at this busy place? i loved it. Friendly staff and our food arrived on time. My friend ordered the Elvis burger (which i forgot to take a photo of, damn) and i ordered the corned beef hash. WOW omg i am definitely going back for that. My friend loved his Elvis burger and we both agreed it's a hot spot! Are we going back to Brewtown? Of course! We love it! Delicious food and affordable and you must try a cronut..Its the star of the place!

Brewtown in Newtown is profound. Brewtown from the outside looks like a massive queue to a big department sale. There are lots of people waiting with desperation in their eyes. They are willing to wait for the delicious goodies within Brewtown. I decide to drop by for the Brewnuts (same same as cronuts which are a cross breed between a crossiant and a donut ) are what most people are after. However some are also waiting for the Cruffins (Croissant crossed with a muffin). My preference was the glazed cronut, which steals the best bits of a Krispy Kreme glazed donut but feels like a much lighter experience. As you bite into the Brewnut, it's light, fluffy but full of that krispy kreme donut taste. It's hard to describe but if I had to choose one word it would be heavenly.

Yelp
Brewtown Newtown is Sydney's answer to the vibrant cafe scene you will normally find in the little streets of Melbourne. Fresh, appetizing food without costing an arm and a leg. Tucked away nicely just off the ever popular King St. A once old, rustic-looking bookstore converted to a hip and happening side street cafe. The coffee will knock your socks off!!! I cannot fault it. The baristas have a firm hand on the art of real coffee making. Brewnuts (cronuts) are a sure-fire hit! Guaranteed crowd pleaser. You are spoilt for choice here. A vast selection located near the register (you can't miss em!!). My personal faves are the Cinnamon and Nutella. For brekky, the scrambled eggs are furiously good! Be prepared for the long queues to get in, especially on weekends. But don't walk away. It's well worth it. Put your name on the list and go for a nice morning stroll along the bustling Newtown thoroughfare and admire the picturesque Victorian and Edwardian era buildings. Enjoy!

Yelp
Located at a really nice spot near King Street, Brewtown Newtown is amazing. I visited around 2 pm on a Friday and they were fairly busy but there were definitely open tables. I sat down at a table immediately where a very nice waitress came to take my order. I ordered the iced Egyptian Rose Tea and a chocolate brownie cronut. I've never had a cronut before so I don't have anything to compare it to, but the chocolate brownie cronut was perfectly sweet and chocolate-y. The tea was also quite nice. It's a distinct taste, but very refreshing and relaxing. The menu and food served here also looks incredible. I will definitely be back for food in the future. The only downside is that they can no do split checks, it's one bill per table. However I understand why they may feel the need to do that. But overall a really great place with nice staff and delicious food! Update: I came back here for breakfast and coffee and it was amazing! Some of the best food I've ever had. I ordered cold brew coffee and toast with avocado, tomato salsa, chickpeas, zucchini and goat cheese. All very tasty! It was a little bit pricey ($22) but well worth it. Definitely go check out Brewtown Newtown.

Yelp
Breakfast fave is the Polenta with Mushrooms, Asparagus & shaved Parmesan. Elvis burger is a winner and something to go back for. Obviously, so are the Cronuts! The menu is small but most things are nicely done and essentials are available, from healthy items to more sinful ones. It sucks that you can't change items on the menu in any way. Eggs included, where it comes as Poached in most things.

Yelp
Forget about the free sparking mineral water. We need a KFC moist towelette to wipe the grease of our fingers and the drool off our chin after devouring their Elvis Burger. A greasy, flaky, cheesy, bacony melt in the mouth sensation of a burger. And the fries with it were crispy and light. In Heaven. Thank you very much! Not such a shout out for their tea offering. Standard tea menu, however beautifully presented and a decent cup size so expectations were high, however the soy milk delivered little white clumps into my tea, and even when I informed the waitress that their milk may be nearing expiry, no offer of a fresh cup or a refund. Tea fail. Am drowning those sorrows in a Max Brenner hot choc even as we speak. I am on a mission for cafes to treat us tea drinkers with Respect. Vibe was great. Loved the decor, the place was packed at 11.20 of a Wednesday, and though not a fan of being perched on bar stools (at 5 foot they don't always get the stool/table height ratio right for me) here it was perfect and the atmosphere was great. Fast service too. Overall recommended. Oh and the breakfast and lunch menu is served all day so you can have their Elvis Burger anytime.

Yelp
Cronuts are to die for...coffee has been hit or miss. Still worth it for the amazing bakery!

Funky nice hippie cafe, love the vibe and the patrons. Amazingly beautiful healthy food on the menu too, I didn't know vegetarian food can can taste so good. I am a convert.

Yelp
This is a great spot for brunch in Newtown. They always have a queue, so if you're planning on going, make sure you account for the 20-30 minute wait. There is an awesome little shop upstairs though so you can spend some time browsing. I've had great meals both times I've been here. The first time. I had the gazpacho, which was not at all what I was expecting. For me, a gazpacho is a cold soup, but this was more like an assortment of delicious purees and charred vegetables topped with eggs. Today, I had the poached chicken and eggs, topped with salsa, a side of cornbread, and sits on top of a delicious coating of creamed corn. The eggs were perfectly poached and the flavours go really well together. I also ordered the pumpkin bread, to share with the rest of the table. It had a ginger cinnamon butter and a lime and honey mascarpone cream. Pure heaven and would recommend for those looking for something sweet. The only downside here is that the service tends to be a bit back and forth. They forgot one of my friends meals and then when it came out it was missing chicken. Also took a long time to order and get the bill. Overall, great place in Newtown and I would definitely recommend!

Yelp
The service is still kind of "meh" but I had breakfast there this morning and it was spectacular! I had the almond & pistachio gazpacho with eggs and toast and veges. Then I had a salted caramel cronut and that, my friends, was a religious experience. I tasted heaven, yes indeedy. So I had to upgrade the place a star. Very very good.

Yelp
Didn't eat even though it has a very good menu, but the coffee was fantastic and the space is cool. My new cafe rating system calculated a score of 10 out of 8 - still sorting out some bugs. Factors that go into the mix include whether the guy making the coffee looks like Darren 'Boof' Lehman (full marks) and how many tattoos the waitresses have (full marks again) Panella instead of boring old sugar, tick, and a fern pattern on the milk, tick. Beard index went off the Richter. Great coffee

Yelp
Great food and coffee. Fresh vegetables, not greasy. I loved the bacon and my friend said she had the best blood sausages here. I got the egg plant dish which was good but I would get their burger with hashbrowns and egg. This was our first meal in Australia. Was not disappointed.

Yelp
I woke up one sunny, amazing, Saturday morning. Calmly made my way to Newtown for breakfast and...umm...didn't want to wait around...hrrmm...actually, sorry. That whole opening is a lie, let me start again. I dragged my butt outta bed early in the morning (seriously, 8am on a Saturday!), did everything to avoid raising my head towards the blazing sun, jumped in the tank, flew across the coat hanger we call a bridge & tore into Newtown exclusively for the Cronuts at Brewtown Newtown (the only place I know that does them in Sydney apart from Adriano Zumbo). I crushed itty bitty bicycles on my way, parked the beastly 4x4 on the little narrow strip of tarmac know as King St, bolted across the street & down O'Connell to be greeted by a horde of hungry zombies (mostly hipsters, all with matching sunglasses...there were some 'ordinary' people too but this is Newtown after all so don't expect ordinary!). I couldn't help but smirk when I overhead the staff telling people that it was at least a 45min wait, as I knew I would simply slice my way through the crowd to takeaway a large strong coffee & one of each cronut that was entombed in their glass counter. I had a two minute wait for the coffee, which was no big deal as I had four pleasantly sized, magical looking, flaky cronuts in my hands. One thing that I saw happen to a few groups whilst waiting & YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, they will not seat you if the whole group is not present when they call you. You will need to wait even longer out on the street, so make sure everyone is there on time (especially important for that one friend we all have that is ALWAYS late). The coffee wasn't bad, but definitely not strong like I had asked. I've personally had better around Sydney but would not stop from grabbing one from Brewtown if I was in the area. Now, the particular items that made me get out of bed on a Saturday morning...the cronuts. I picked up a glazed original, jam, sugar cinnamon & chocolate. I personally found the G.O to be the best of the bunch, it was pleasantly sweet but not overboard on the sweetness. Next in line was the sugar cinnamon, which really is a great to introduce such a hybrid to those that grew up on fresh hot cinnamon donuts. I expected to love the chocolate cronut, however my tastebuds kept being distracted by some type of candy/cake crumble stuff on top (taste like burning!). Last of the bunch was the jam, it was quite sour, a little sweet but I felt it was clashing in my mouth. I must say that I'm not a big fan of jam though, so I'd imagine that someone that is would have a very different opinion on it. Now comparing to the zonut offering from Zumbo, I have to say I'm leaning towards Zumbo for a couple of reasons. I found the Brewtown cronuts to not be as flaky as I like, we're talking about a couple of crunchy, flaky layers compared to the satisfying, endless crunch & snap you hear when biting into a zonut. The other thing is that the Brewtown cronuts are more moist & chewy which is normally not a bad thing at all. However I found this was due to them being extremely oily & you can taste this quite distinctively when chowing down. If you are yet to have the life altering, mind-blowing, magical, orgasmic & enlightening experience of trying a cronut, Brewtown Newtown's versions are fine to start with. They do offer more variety than Zumbo (used to do two flavours, now only one...) & they don't seem to be as limited so you can avoid the disappointment of missing out. I'll be back at Brewtown in the future & will wait with the horde to try their expanded brekky menu. I'll also definitely give their cronuts another shot, hopefully they'll get the oil under control.

Yelp
Brewtown? More like Stumptown! Coffee's good, but there be some serious shrinkage up in here. Surprisingly, I like the flavor of the coffee, which is roasted in house, more than the coffee you get at Gnome, Brewtown's sister cafe in Surry Hills. Brother from another mother, as they say. But my mate and I couldn't help but notice that the cups are smaller than the average cafe takeaway cup, and I haven't figured out why. Best gifts come in small packages? No, size does matter, my friends, and the takeaway cups suffer from a Napoleonic complex. Word has gotten out to the hipster throngs, too. The crowds that packed into this space, a Berkelouw bookstore in a former life, made a Saturday morning visit border on the unbearable wait-wise. The heat was a bit stifling. The chocolate cronut, straight from the kitchen, was meh-okay. The chocolate frosting was smack-my-ass-and-and-call-me-judy dark and bitter. I was not a fan of the texture, which was doughy (unlike a good donut) and not-flakey (unlike a good croissant). I've heard the original cronut is plagued by the same fatal flaws, so I guess Brewtown's version is faithful to the original, in both taste and (over-)hype. The food on the lunch menu, on the other hand, looks good, though I haven't tried yet. Will be back for that, I suppose, once the crowds die down a bit.

Yelp

Yelp
We went on The Australia Day holiday Monday, it was very busy but our expected 15 min wait was more like 5 mins. The staff are friendly, easy going & know the food well. The food is fantastic; tasty & edgy. Good coffee too. Reasonably priced. It's a great addition to Newtown. Thumbs up.

Yelp
Went there on a Sunday noon with a friend. Just had to wait 20 minutes until we got seated an the "bar". Ordered the breakfast burger and the breakfast juice. It was very delicious . The burger and the juice costed $24 combined and that's the reason for just the 4 stars: It's just not a good price-value for the amount of food you get for me.

Yelp
The venue with its exposed ceiling provides a gorgeous rustic look. Couple that with the vibe and this place rocks! The granola dish with its magnificent blend of flavours is arguably the best I've had in Sydney. Go check it out!

Yelp
You haven't lived until you've tried a cronut! Brewtown in Newtown (see what they did there?) is a trendy cafe nestled into a side street off King Street Newtown. Parking in Newtown is a pain, but if you are patient and go down the side streets, you will find parking. We came to Brewtown at around 2pm after we had eaten brunch already and we were after some delicious dessert. I had looked up Brewtown online and there were loads of pictures of cronuts and i was salivating just looking at the blog pictures. From the reviews I knew this place was going to be PACKED and i hate waiting when I'm super hungry, so I wasn't having brunch here. The reviews were right. There were people waiting and the place was packed! We entered and as soon as we got in we saw the delicious flaky cronuts at the counter. Service was super quick and we couldn't decide what cronuts to get, so we ordered a flavour of each. I believe the flavours were: - Chocolate - Original Glazed - Cinnamon - Jam Donut The total cost was $20, and in my opinion, the best $20 spent! We got the cronuts take away and couldn't help but bite into the original glazed whilst waiting for our coffee order. OMG - These cronuts were to die for! Flaky, buttery, sweet and savoury all at the same time. Each flavour got better and better, my favourite was the cinnamon and chocolate. They weren't overly sweet, and were balanced perfectly! I shared 4 cronuts with my partner, and by the time we had sampled a quarter of each flavour, i was feeling rather sick and suffering from a food coma. My fault of course, ate too quick and was way too excited, but they were cronuts! And they were delicious, and was well worth it! I recommend Brewtown and their cronuts, you haven't lived until you've tried a cronut! As for the food menu, I can't comment on this, but will be back to Brewtown to check out the rest of their menu!

Yelp
Love this place. Just off the main drag of King Street, Newtown, in what used to be the Berkelouw book store. It is a great cafe, albeit a very, very busy one at times. Expect a wait to get a table. The menu is great, although like so many places in Sydney the vegetarian options are limited. Coffee is fantastic, with an excellent cold brewed coffee available. But ultimately, what this places comes down to is one thing. CRONUTS. The food could be awful. The coffee mediocre. The service reminiscent of a school cafeteria. And still I would come here for the cronuts. In case you have missed the memo, cronuts are a mix of croissant and donut, and they are amazing. Try one. Try all of them. Your hardening arteries may not agree, but you will not regret it.
