"Medieval Fortress Fun Take the bus to Kungälv and walk up to Bohus Fortress (Bohus Fästning), which has guarded the northern entrance to Gothenburg at the Nordre River since 1308. During the summer lots of medieval-style activities take place, like sword fighting, archery, and “knight school” for children. Don’t go back to Gothenburg until you have taken a walk along Västra gatan, a charming street with old wooden houses. Maybe stop for fika , too."

Amazing castle with many options for entertaining the kids, even with a bouncy castle. A truly great experience for the whole family! The food cart in the courtyard was closed, so either check beforehand or bring your own food (many picnic places available). You can bring your dog, even inside the buildings!

Amazing place. A lot of activities for the kids. Audio guide is nice and includes in the ticket - bring your headset along smart phone. Cafe outside is nice

Worth visiting! Loved the audio guide that told vivid historical stories selected from its 700 years of drama— I will always remember how the well was dug. Beautiful site. Quick 23-min express bus from Central Station.

This is a very interesting place to visit. There is a lot of history which is told on various information boards in both English and Swedish. A lot of walking but well worth it to find out the history of the area near Gothenburg Sweden.

A very well preserved fortress with a lot of Nordic history. From the early Norwegian heritage via the Danish kings and the return to Swedish rule. There are activities for children, lots of historical information and even a nice park bear by (next to the entrance) with kiosk and a restaurant.

I had a great day out here, I got there early and it was just bliss. Lovely staff and just joy to walk around. Looks like a great place for kids too, lots of activities around the Fortress.

We had a lot of fun in this place - we especially lakier that you could go almost everywhere - all corridors were open for exploring

Yelp
After a quick visit to the Bohus Fästning (Fortress) our dog and us really needed a walk. And there's a nice little walk around the Fortress. You can either start south of the Fortress, just by the Bohusbron Bridge (there's a parking lot, 4 hours free) or north of the Fortress at the Ställplats - Husbil Camping and Parking lot (fees apply). The walk along the water and around the Fortress is quite short, but very nice. Sheep roam around free here, so please be respectful of their territory. Dogs are allowed though. There's a bunch of benches with nice views and some water access in case your furry friend needs a quick dip (ours did). If you are visiting the Fortress, be sure not to miss out on this little walk. There are hardly any visitors...
