Bobwhite Lunch and Supper Counter offers stellar, no-frills fried chicken and soul food sides in a casual, cozy setting that's perfect for takeout.
"A delicious fried chicken sandwich from Bobwhite Counter on Avenue C will cost you roughly the same amount of money as a bubble tea ($6.59). This sandwich is about as simple and straightforward as fried chicken concoctions get, with crispy breast layered with two or three bread and butter pickles and a swipe of mayo, served on a lightly toasted roll. We’re putting this time-tested sandwich in the snack category because the one from Bobwhite is fairly petite." - hannah albertine
"This micro-sized spot in Alphabet City specializes in fried chicken, which is simple and crisp-skinned, with little fuss made other than very careful cooking. The sides are also great, especially the lighter-than-air biscuits and hearty mac and cheese. Caesar salads are also available, and there are multiple food court locations, too, but be forewarned they serve chicken tenders and sandwiches, not whole bone-in pieces." - Robert Sietsema
"Blissfully lacking in trendiness, this Alphabet City mainstay is indeed little more than a counter. Diners at the bar can watch the kitchen make its crisp, moist fried chicken, available in platters and a sandwich. Bobwhite also fries up catfish and serves rib-sticking sides like the mac and cheese. The room isn’t much to look at, but takeout is a safe backup option. There’s an additional location in the Urbanspace food hall in Midtown East." - Paul Schrodt
"Bobwhite in Alphabet City has fried chicken and other things you’ll want to eat on your couch available for pickup or delivery." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, bryan kim, arden shore, matt tervooren
"There’s nothing fancy or charming about this space in the East Village, but you don’t need ambiance when you have good fried poultry. Bobwhite is a super-casual spot where you order at the bar and someone brings you fried chicken with some coleslaw and a biscuit. They also have sandwiches and sides (and also a salad). Come to Bobwhite when you’ve had a rough weekday, and eat a cheap meal that’ll put you to sleep." - bryan kim
