21 Best Restaurants in Vancouver

"It’s more than a little confusing that Vancouver, a city ideally situated to harvest the Pacific Ocean’s bounty, has so few fine dining seafood restaurants; Blue Water Café, however, is a notable exception. Located in Yaletown and set in a converted warehouse, this is a warm and intimate spot. Dishes like sablefish with a miso sake glaze or yellowfin tuna with pepper piperade and romesco sauce go a long way toward showing what, exactly, a sure-handed cook can do with delicate ingredients." - Guy Saddy, Nicole Schnitzler

Blue Water Café – Restaurant Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What sets this place apart in the city's dining scene? It’s more than a little confusing that Vancouver, a city ideally situated to harvest the Pacific Ocean’s bounty, has so few fine dining seafood restaurants; Blue Water Café, however, is a notable exception. Located in Yaletown and set in converted warehouse, this is a warm and intimate spot, despite its considerable size. The long bar that dominates one side of the room is often busy, but it’s hardly raucous or out of control. What's the crowd like? Tourists, business-account diners, and serious foodies looking to experience the best seafood in town. What should we be drinking? The bar is more than capable, but the star of the show here is the wine cellar; with about 14,000 bottles, it promises something for everyone. What can we expect from the menu? Dishes like sablefish with a miso sake glaze or yellowfin tuna with pepper piperade and romesco sauce go a long way toward showing what, exactly, a sure-handed cook can do with delicate ingredients. But the raw bar is also worth a test-drive; seafood tower or jellyfish-scallop ceviche, anyone?" - Guy Saddy

The 38 Best Restaurants in Vancouver | Eater

"Raw from the sushi bar or cooked from the open kitchen, seafood is the star at this Yaletown institution. Widely acknowledged as one of Canada’s leaders in responsible seafood, chef Frank Pabst and team push the culinary envelope a little each February with their Unsung Heroes festival, which celebrates lesser-loved species, encouraging diners to broaden their palates and try more sustainable seafood such as poached periwinkles and red sea urchin trifle. Year-round, the service is superb, the wine list dizzyingly wonderful, and the British Columbian seafood towers a splurge meal you’ll adore." - Nikki Bayley

"Routinely crowned the city’s top seafood restaurant, Blue Water Cafe is also among the continent’s best. After honing his skills at Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe, executive chef Frank Pabst opened this Yaletown classic to marry fine-dining techniques with local, sustainable ingredients. Eventually, the restaurant became a founding member of the Ocean Wise program, which helps consumers make ocean-friendly seafood choices. When visiting, you can belly up to the bar—which boasts more than 200 whiskeys and 1,000 wine labels—or reserve a table in the elegant brick-and-beamed dining room, housed in a heritage warehouse. Come summertime, however, you’ll want to head straight to the patio for sushi and premium sake. Fancy a splurge? Go for the seafood tower, which showcases the bounty of British Columbia."

We are seafood lovers, and my husband took me here for my birthday dinner. The oysters were very fresh and juicy. The food was good, and the service was great. We sat in the balcony area, which was warm. The only downside was the heater — it couldn’t be adjusted, so when one table complained that it was too hot, they turned it off. Once it was off, it got cold again, so they had to keep switching it on and off. The walkway to the washroom was also quite dark. Overall, we had a great time there.

Came here on a Sunday evening and got seated at the sushi bar, which was a great experience — it’s always nice to watch the sushi chefs at work. We weren’t too hungry, so we ordered a few items to share. Our server recommended a bottle of sake to pair with the food (wish I had taken a photo of the label!), and interestingly, it was served in a wine glass instead of traditional sake cups. We ended the meal with dessert and an espresso martini. Overall, it was a great dinner — the atmosphere was relaxed yet upscale and very clean. Would definitely come back!

This beautiful restaurant in the heart of Yaletown offers an extensive list of whiskey, various drinks, and cocktails. The ambiance is beautiful and romantic, making it a great place to drink and chat with friends. The food is delicious but not extraordinary.

Worth. The. Hype. We asked our server for recommendations as we'd likely only come here once and it exceeded his hype (everything was "award winning")! Pre note - my wife is from a "seaside village" in Europe and we love "fresh" seafood. This was not only labeled fresh, but tasted extremely fresh as well. (If you don't "like" seafood, definitely try "fresh" it's tastes less fishy.) Sushi - Aburi Sablefish Battera Stamina We chose these because they were very different from our local spots and our salesman, I mean waiter highly recommended them and they were delicious. They weren't "over riced" and the amount of char was just enough to bring out the richness of the fish. Main - Lamb - from Daily Special Again, our sales person's top recommendation as they told us they sell out every time they have lamb on the me u - so obviously we had to try it. He was so convicted in his selection that while we were here for seafood we diverted and wow was it a good call! It was moist, flavorful and look at the pics, cooked to perfection! We "shared" and they split our plate beautifully. The sides were split between "ok" and "one of the top 5 seafood items I've ever had" Their jumbo prawns - I got them because I like prawns, but they were 'meh' at best But the SCALLOPS! Omg were these delicious. While I'm glad we didn't get a full order, who h would have been 5 (and we'd have left hungry) the buttery smooth texture, doneness and flavorful sauce was absolute perfection! Dessert- Again, "unique, award winning 9 years in a row, replicated but never duplicated, whatever whatever.." . It was lava cake. Even with the bit of cognac it tasted 98% the same as the lava cake you can get at Moxies with elevated presentation. All in for one night in Vancouver we felt it was worth it. Apparently 70% of the crowd are regulars so that was interesting to hear. As part of the experience the Police came through "looking around" and there was a police van parked outside for a while. That quieted the rambunctious conversation a bit but didn't completely kill the vibe. Would we recommend it - highly Would we go back - VERY likely

We drove all the way from Seattle for this place, and after all these years, it still delivers. Top-notch food quality, impeccable service, and an awesome ambiance. We had cocktail prawns, lobster, and sablefish. Everything was perfect for our birthday dinner. Shout-out to our server Robb. His attention to detail and dedication to making sure all our needs were met made our evening special and unforgettable. We’ll definitely be coming back for our next big day or whenever we just don’t want to be disappointed.

Blue Water Cafe isn’t just our favorite restaurant—it’s our second home. My husband and I come here all the time, and it’s always special. But when it came time to plan our wedding party, they turned special into truly unforgettable. Stephan, the incredible Director, helped us bring our vision to life with such care and precision. Every little detail was thought through, and his amazing team executed it all so seamlessly. It honestly felt like magic. ✨ The food was beyond delicious—elegant, flavourful, and absolutely world-class. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how good everything was. For a wedding dinner, it didn’t just meet expectations—it soared way above them. And the bar? Let’s just say even our pickiest friends found their perfect drink (or three). 🍸🍷😉 The space was set up beautifully, with AV and a mic ready to go—because yes, there were speeches, and yes, I cried. Everything flowed perfectly. Huge hugs and thanks to Erin, our amazing head waiter, who kept everything calm and on time like a total pro. And to Martin, Adam, and Ben—thank you for keeping the drinks flowing (honestly, I don’t know how your arms didn’t fall off!). You guys were fabulous. Thank you, Blue Water, for making our celebration feel like a dream. You’ll forever be part of our love story. 💕

Despite being owned by a group and operating as a large restaurant, we really loved this place. The service was personalized and attentive—a pleasant surprise! The food was mostly excellent, starting with the cocktails they recommended—they have an impressive alcohol selection. The sashimi, Western Pacific Tuna and Black Forest dessert were amazing. We found the Turbo Island Baffin a bit less flavorful in comparison.
