Nestled in Gowanus, this cozy wine bar boasts a rustic vibe, a crackling fireplace, and a delightful mix of small plates and affordable wines.
"This barely marked building steps west of the Gowanus Canal on a street connected to the other side with a picturesque bridge, is in fact a wine bar with a spectacular range of affordable vintages by the glass, plus cheese, charcuterie, and small plates for snacking. It feels a bit like a rustic bed and breakfast inside, with log detailing, Adirondack chairs, and a wood-burning, stone-finished fireplace." - Eater Staff
"Taking a trip to Black Mountain Wine House is like a mini vacation to a tiny mountain cottage. The rustic interior, the heavy pours of wine and the crackling fireplace make for the most romantic experience in South Brooklyn. We love going to Black Mountain Wine House for a light dinner. Their plates are on the small size, but everything is packed with so much flavor you'll want to order at least two. The staff here is exceptionally friendly and we always have a good time getting to know neighbors here. The vibe is perfectly tailored for having intimate conversations and feeling the love." - Ghostly Ferns
"This candlelit corner spot in Gowanus has $35 bottles of wine and a functional fireplace every night of the week, but the fondue is only available on Tuesdays. At $22 they keep it pretty simple, with a pot of cheese and cubed bread, but you should also get the charcuterie plate with cured meats, cornichons, and grainy mustard. After an evening here, you might find yourself using Fondue Tuesday as a verb, by which you mean returning to Black Mountain for a weekly mental escape to a little lodge, far, far away. If there’s a wait, drink your first bottle of wine by the outdoor firepit. " - Willa Moore, Neha Talreja, Carina Finn Koeppicus
"It’s terrible outside, and you don’t want to go somewhere bright with big windows where you’ll be consistently reminded of what you’ll have to deal with on your Monday morning commute. Instead, go to Black Mountain Wine House. This Gowanus wine bar is a dark space that feels like a cabin on a mountaintop in Vermont. There’s even a working fireplace, which you should sit next to while you try any of the 30 wines available by the glass." - bryan kim, matt tervooren
"Blind tastings are a way to try wines without biases, test your knowledge, and become the center of attention at dinner parties. But unless you have friends with lots of money and patience, they’re hard to set up on your own. So go to Black Mountain Wine House, a cabin-like spot in Gowanus that offers three-wine blind tastings for $10 until 6pm on weekdays. Even if you don’t make it for Happy Hour, you can try a bunch of small-production wines from around the world by the glass and half-bottle, and some very good small plates as well." - matt tervooren
