Asanebo is a cozy Studio City gem tucked in a strip mall, serving exquisite sushi and inventive Japanese dishes that elevate your dining experience.
"When you’re in Studio City and looking for a splurge-y sushi experience, go to Asanebo. The high-end strip mall spot has a warm, wooden interior and excellent premium-grade sushi. If you’re a first-timer, the $200 omakase lets you sample every signature dish on the menu. There's a smaller option that comes with 14 pieces of sushi plus a handroll, appetizers, soup, and dessert for $140." - Brant Cox
"With its spare design, fire-glazed stone pottery and even Hello Kitty dolls doubling as décor, everything about Asanebo’s look is appealing. There is certainly no dearth of sushi restaurants in this city, but this well-regarded favorite has been at it for more than two decades. Three omakase options open the menu, which then expands to an impressive, if somewhat dizzying five pages filled with everything from maki, house signature dishes and an entire page dedicated to desserts. With so many decisions, it’s best to stick to the daily specials, though do keep a close watch on the prices, which climb slowly but steadily. While the items may pander a bit to the Western palate and aren't known for razzle-dazzle, they remain a standby for good reason." - Michelin Inspector
"If you’re anything like us, sushi is always a go-to date night move. And while to-go fish admittedly loses a bit of its luster, one place where the quality never dips is Asanebo. The classic Studio City sushi spot is offering tremendous $45 sushi combinations, as well as $40 bento boxes. That’s an incredible value for a place where a regular dinner can set you back several hundreds of dollars. Of course, if you do want to go the splashy route, their omakase for two gets you 24 pieces of premium sushi for $120. Call (818) 760-3348 or place your order online. Takeout only." - brant cox
"The significance of Asanebo cannot be overstated. Their Tier A omakase will put a hefty dent into your wallet, but it’s one of the best versions in the city (if not the country). For a place that’s received almost every accolade you could imagine over the past 25 years, it’s remained completely untouched by the corporate crush. Asanebo isn’t your weekly sushi joint, but it’s a place you come to experience higher level eating." - brant cox
"Asanebo Restaurant is a long-standing establishment known for its high-quality sushi and attentive service. The menu includes fresh sashimi, spicy tuna, and crab hand rolls." - Eater Staff
