If there's one thing this list should convince you of, it should be to not go to Pujol.

Blanco Colima

Restaurant · Roma Norte

In the heart of Roma Norte, an absolute gem of a restaurant/bar. There are better places for food, and for drinks, but the combination of those, the interior, the people, and the music makes this one of the best hangouts in CDMX.

El Hidalguense

Mexican restaurant · Roma sur

This place is only open on weekends, but it is worth the stop. Their barbacoa is a must-have, but so are their insects. It's a casual place but definitely pricier than similar places.

Contramar

Seafood restaurant · Roma Norte

The hype is real. I don't like tostadas but I would fly to CDMX for this tuna tostada. The colourful fish is overrated but these tostadas were completely underrated. Also, don't believe OpenTable, you can just walk in when they open or in the afternoon.

Taquería Los Parados

Taco restaurant · Roma sur

Obviously CDMX is famous for tacos al pastor, and Los Parados does it right. Roma Sur might be a little out of the way but this taco is a huge step up from the famous ones in Roma Norte.

Sartoria

Italian restaurant · Juarez

If this were in the US or Europe, I would still rate it an excellent Italian restaurant. When I spent a longer period of time in CDMX, I ordered this ragu on Rappi at least twice a week.

Los Cocuyos

Taco restaurant · Centro

A classic, and a great start to a touristy day in Centro Historico. I'd try the weirdest things they have on their menu and watch them fish it out of the big basin of cow parts. The photo below includes cow eyes...

Tacos "El Gato Volador"

Taco restaurant · Hipodromo

I hate to put this out for public consumption but this is the best taco stand ever. I get the birria taco every single time, and there's a fantastic Sonder (Parian) down the street that I stay in to be close to this taco stand. It's that good.

Ticuchi

Bar & grill · Chapultepec Morales

Immaculate vibes, questionable food. It's in the old Pujol space and the kitchen is related to the Pujol team too -- hence the food is mid. Great space, great drinks, great vibes but pretty loud.

Quintonil

Mexican restaurant · Polanco

Everyone tells you to go to Pujol -- don't. Quintonil is actually worth the $$ and would be exceptional anywhere. Pujol would be disappointing anywhere. This is the best meal in town (and that I've had in the Americas), next level cooking and cocktails.
