"Madruga has some of our favorite bagels in the city. They’re springy and delicious toasted or untoasted. The bagels come in two flavors: asiago or seeded. We like the seeded, which are soft, chewy, and covered in poppy, sesame, and caraway seeds. There’s just one giant caveat: these bagels are only available Saturdays and Sundays—and they sell out almost as soon as the Gables bakery opens. Here’s the trick. Order them online the previous day (after 5pm), and you can pick it up with zero wait. Just ask them to slice it for you if you want to eat there because they come whole (with a side of cream cheese or butter for 50 cents). It takes a little effort and planning, but these bagels are worth it. " - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea, virginia otazo
