"Gem Home comes from the people behind Gem Wine, and while you can buy a $1,400 bowl made of cast copper macaroni here, we’d actually recommend not doing that (unless you like, really need to). Instead, come in for a cardamom bun or olive oil tangerine cake, a focaccia sandwich, and a cup of coffee. The Nolita bakery and home goods store is a great place to kill time thanks to the adorable seating area in the back (that you can rent out for private events) with large hanging tapestries, comfortable wooden wicker chairs, and drippy candles. Sit and get some work done, or catch up with a friend—the music isn’t too loud, there’s plenty of seating, and there’s expensive flatware and homemade pickles to distract you if you need a break. Food Rundown photo credit: Will Hartman La Salumina Prosciutello This prosciutto and blue cheese butter sandwich on ciabatta is pleasantly salty and savory, though we wish there was a bit more heft to this. photo credit: Will Hartman Smoked Trout Served on focaccia studded with lightly spicy and savory togarashi, this is our favorite sandwich here. The smoked trout is cut into uneven pieces, meaning there’s a good mix of salad-textured smoked trout and big flakes of fish, and there’s enough dill and parsley here to keep your breath fresh. The pops of chili heat tie the whole thing together." - Will Hartman
