"Modeled after a kissaten (a classic Japanese cafe-restaurant) with some European influence, Davelle will be an all-day spot at 102 Suffolk St., between Delancey and Rivington, opened by Yudai Kanayama and partners; the concept aims to channel Japanese coffee culture by pairing food with coffee and to cultivate a "chill" atmosphere. Mornings will pair coffee with Japanese-style toast and a boiled egg or an onigiri rice bowl and a boiled egg; lunch will feature three options—a curry rice set, a spaghetti set, and a daily special—and dinner will focus on oden (a stew of boiled eggs, daikon, and fishcakes in a dashi broth) alongside Japanese small plates similar to those served at Izakaya, plus a larger wine and sake bar. The tiny, 22-seat space (including a small bar) will also eventually introduce a retail component selling "lifestyle goods," and the restaurant’s name comes from the Japanese word daberu, meaning to relax at a cafe; expect a February opening." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya
