"A stylish new wine bar and market on the corner of Arguello and Clement is gradually opening under owner Will Eagle, who is currently pouring wine on weekends, serving Verve coffee and espresso in the mornings, and preparing a small food menu; tonight he’s formally greeting the neighborhood by hosting the Clement Street Merchants Association. Designed by ROY (formerly Hannah Collins design), the space features handsome shelves for Eagle’s bottle collection, a central marble counter, several indoor tables beneath elegant light fixtures, and outdoor seating under an awning that proclaims Eagle’s wine philosophy: “Drink what you like, and like what you drink.” Eagle, who began in the San Francisco wine trade in the early 2000s, rose to manager of the Wine Club in SoMa and later worked at Chambers Street Wines, Zachy’s, and Morrell & Company in New York; after returning to San Francisco with his son Breck he took over the former Clement Mini Market, ran it as a corner store while applying for permits, and then remodeled it into this shop. At any given time Breck’s will offer two wines on tap, two beers, six bottle pours by the glass, and additional bottles via Coravin, reflecting Eagle’s view that letting people taste wine “lifts the veil,” and the selection will evolve month to month to serve what the neighborhood likes to drink rather than focusing on a single region or category." - Caleb Pershan
