"After nearly two decades of outrageous burgers served to loud metal and punk music, Kuma’s Corner is making changes at its original Avondale location and its Fulton Market outpost. At Avondale they’ll use the service window for a new frozen-dessert operation called Voodoobar, debuting Wednesday, June 14, offering seasonal selections like mint and strawberry gelato cookie sandwiches, caramel nut fudge and churro gelato bars, and lemon and mango Italian ice. In Fulton Market the burger specialists will start selling 4-ounce hot dogs later this summer under the name H.E. Doubleweiners — each wiener named after a fictitious evil dog or urban legend, with examples like the Zoltan topped with bacon, jalapeño, and beer cheese and the Zuul with giardiniera relish, caramelized onions, and beer cheese — sold out of the takeout window. Kuma’s helped usher in a new age of burgers in Chicago when it opened in 2005; it now has four locations (two in Chicago, one in Schaumburg inside Woodfield Mall, and one in Indianapolis), names burgers after bands, and while the speaker volume isn’t as loud as at its debut, the mini-chain still harbors a large following." - Ashok Selvam
