"Socially conscious brewery Ex Novo is heading south, from Beaverton to Corrales, New Mexico. The Eliot-area brewery, known for its hearty donations to various causes, will open a new Detroit-pizza-slinging brewpub in Old Town Beaverton, followed by a whole new brewing operation in New Mexico. Founder and owner Joel Gregory says the team was looking for a new location in one of Portland’s “rare, underserved” markets, when they noticed that the City of Beaverton was actively seeking out new breweries and taphouses. New School reports the Ex Novo team grabbed a spot in the Historic Cady Building, where the new brewpub will get a full new redesign and 14 taps of Ex Novo beer. The chef, Chris Greer, is from Michigan, so the menu will be very similar to the other location: Stocked with his home state’s famous style of pizza, with thick, rectangular crusts and crispy edges. After Ex Novo Beaverton opens in October, the brewery will focus on its out-of-state location. Gregory says the New Mexico outpost has been in the works longer, and the team will break ground on a 10,000 square foot production facility in July. “We’ve maxed out here on production space, and we thought it wise to maybe look outside the very competitive Portland market,” Gregory says. “I’m from (New Mexico), and I was feeling a pull to be closer to family.” Brewing operations will continue at the North Portland brewery, as well, but this location will have more space, from the actual beer production to a small orchard for fruit beers. He says the second brewery will come together by the end of 2018, “if everything goes super super super smoothly.” Because opening a brewery is always smooth, right?" - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
