"The co-founders of Trust Restaurant, winners of the 2016 Eater Award for Best Neighborhood Trailblazer for their breakout hit in Hillcrest, will next make magic in Mission Hills with a new restaurant and bar called Fort Oak. Scheduled for a Fall 2018 debut, it will be the third eatery in three years for executive chef Brad Wise and general manager Steve Schwob, who followed up the 2016 opening of Trust with last year’s launch of Hundred Proof. Fort Oak will anchor The Fort, a new mixed-use building on Fort Stockton by Jonathan Segal, the local developer-architect whose 36-unit building on Park Boulevard, Mr. Robinson, houses Trust. The Fort’s entire ground floor, spanning 3,404-square-feet of indoor and outdoor space, will be dedicated to the restaurant; crafted in collaboration with GTC Design, it includes a uniquely-shaped historic structure, once a Ford auto dealership in the 1940s, that has been rebuilt into a cocktail bar. With a U-shaped bar as its centerpiece, the cocktail lounge will serve the refreshing and well-balanced drinks that have become a hallmark at Trust and Hundred Proof as well as its own food menu. The bar will be flanked by two patios, the larger of which will lead into the main dining room. Designed to offer a more refined and traditional dining experience, the space includes a wine feature that reflects this restaurant’s wine program, which will offer a deeper selection from around the world. The restaurant’s kitchen space will also function as a second dining area, with 16 seats surrounding a deluxe exhibition kitchen that will include a raw bar. A family-style tasting menu will be available at the kitchen seats and at a communal table located on a kitchen-adjacent outdoor nook that can be reserved for private events and parties. Fort Oak will serve dinner seven days a week; the bar will open at 3 p.m., with the bar bites and dining room menus available starting at 5 p.m. and weekend brunch offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m." - Candice Woo
