"Taking its popular Italian sandwiches to the streets, I watched Ggiata move from a host/commissary kitchen into a gleaming white 800-square-foot storefront at 5009 Melrose Avenue in Melrose Hill, offering on-site dining, takeaway service, and delivery. The new space lets them expand the menu beyond sandwiches to include more pastas, sides, desserts, and drinks, and they plan retail offerings like housemade giardiniera, sauces, breads, and merchandise a la Uncle Paulie’s. Hours will run from morning (think breakfast sandwiches) through dinner daily, with a couple of small outdoor sidewalk tables now and possible future indoor stand-up dining; the team hopes to use this small-footprint model to open additional Ggiata locations across Los Angeles and beyond. The food sticks to classic Italian deli trademarks—thinly sliced meats—and the chicken Parmesan sub might be even better; you can order directly on Ggiata’s website or via Uber Eats." - Farley Elliott
