"After 18 months of pop-ups, delivery dinners, and a brief interlude competing on Top Chef, I watched chef Jae Jung open a permanent spot for her popular pandemic pop-up at 154 E. 39th Street, near Third Avenue on the edge of Murray Hill and Midtown East. The cheery 15-seat, counter-service restaurant lets her finally dig into headlining pop-up dishes such as shrimp and grits cradled in a shrimp dashi and cast-iron jalapeno honey cornbread, alongside crowd favorites she churned out around the city—fried chicken, tomato kimchi, and jambalaya. Jung is also adding new items like a sweet tea–brined pork chop katsu with rice and red beans and a ramen with collard greens for colder months, plus lunch specials including a fried chicken set with kimchi slaw and gochujang hot honey sauce, and a grab-and-go area stocked with Korean banchan. Buoyed by a strong fan base (one customer even helped find the space) and shaped by her training with Leah Chase and at Le Bernardin and Cafe Boulud, she intends to keep experimenting with her inventive Korean-and-Cajun mashups and will run special weekend events; the restaurant is open Monday–Thursday 12–8 and Friday–Saturday 12–9." - Erika Adams
