"Okay, you’ve just walked in. First impressions? This high-ceilinged corner café is prized for obvious reasons: its spacious outdoor terrace, just-comfortable-enough wooden tables and benches, and serious coffee on rotation. Who else was there? Young locals working or chatting with friends, plus a smattering of tourists. The raison d’être : the coffee. How was it? KB is deep in the coffee scene– it was among the very first coffee shops in Paris at the start of the specialty boom more than ten years ago. The team has also been roasting their own beans since 2015, a major arm of the business that is now run out of the on-site roastery at their sister café, Back in Black. While the menu consists of all the usual drinks-of-choice, what's special is the quality in the cup. Was there food, too, and if so, worth getting? Grab a freshly pressed fruit-and-veggie juice, sandwich, or salad to-go; linger over a cookie or sweet cake on the outdoor terrace. How about the staff: what did you think? What's the difference between a flat white and a café crème? Ask the knowledgable, efficient staff. Who should go here? While not quite cozy enough for a date, KB is great for that quick, friendly catch-up you're been postponing for months." - Lindsey Tramuta
