"Café St. Honoré, a chic but low-key Edinburgh bistro, is warm and comfortable, with more than a dash of Parisian joie de vivre. With consistently creative, well-priced food made with carefully sourced local ingredients, it's hard to find a better all-around dining experience in central Edinburgh. Forbes lists his suppliers on the menu—organic meat is likely to come from nearby Peelham Farm, cheese and ice cream from artisan dairy Knockraich Farm—and offers dishes like Scrabster cod with Isle of Mull cheese or organic pickled beetroot with crowdie (Scottish fresh cheese). If the fishcakes are on, order those—you won't regret it (although they'll put all past and future fishcakes to shame). And if you've spent all your hard-earned cash on festival-going, the Cafe Classics menu, the best deal in town, will see you right; two courses for £20 ($26) or three for £25.50 ($34). In summer, expect to see the Edinburgh festival set, bookish types, their agents, and the odd actor. Off season: loyal tweed- and wool-wearing locals who spend hours enjoying the daily-changing menu conceived by chef Neil Forbes." - Caroline Eden
