"Off to the Cart Races Portland's food cart scene is obscene. There are so many "pods"—small to large groups of carts at a single location—it's impossible to keep track of what's located where. That's the kind of obscenity any community would love to have out in the open. The food cart circle is expanding to every district in PDX with even the airport welcoming travelers with an official pod on one of the concourses. Some of the pods now serve beer and wine as part of the outdoor dining experience. Trying to review all the offerings would take a lifetime, so here's a sample of cart concentrations. and I'd encourage you to be adventurous in your pursuit of the perfect pod. There's even an app for that! In NoPo there's Mississippi Marketplace next to Prost, conveniently serving lots of food that goes great with German beers. In Southeast, Cartopia at 12th and Hawthorne is a longstanding group with late-night service. Southwest serves up two large pods for the Portland State and downtown crowds. The campus pod at SW 4th & Hall caters to the student taste and budget, while the SW 9th & Alder pod is the city's largest and most diverse collection of carts. Gather your cart expedition gear—rain protection, cash, comfortable shoes—download the app, and head out. You're bound to find something to write home about."
