"The Eastern Townships, to the east of Montréal, were first settled in the years after the American Revolutionary War, when land grants were issued for displaced Loyalists. A key city in the area, though, is perhaps best known for residents that come from distances far greater than the United States: The Granby Zoo is one of the province's most famous tourist attractions, home to some 1,500 animals representing 225 species. In addition to the zoo's display of animals, there is a program of feedings and talks by docents—though some of these are in French only (all signage, however, is bilingual). Admission includes access to the slides, pools, and amusement park rides of the adjacent Amazoo water park."
