Doel has become a canvas for graffiti artists, poets, and those who just come to see it before it disappears. Doel is home to a nuclear power plant with the dubious honour of being first on the list of nuclear plants in Europe surrounded by densely populated areas. There is a strange disparity between the still busy local pub and nearby children’s play area and the cooling towers billowing steam in the background."
