Great Otway National Park

National park · Colac-Otway

"A Rainforest Walk At Great Otway National Park Maits Rest Rainforest Walk – well, that was my first acquaintance with a rainforest ever! The experience was not something that you undergo every day. I don’t think I ever felt so close to nature – fresh, green and pure. There’s nothing more awesome and powerful than nature in its purest state. It has a remarkable ability to switch you off from your world and heal you. When you are in an intimate rendezvous with nature, you forget about your worries and pain, and simply succumb to its unhindered beauty. It’s a cool temperate rainforest, which allows you to go deep into the forest and enjoy the therapy of nature. There are trees in the park, which are 300 years old. Since it’s a rainforest, there’s a wet undertone to the whole atmosphere. You are recommended to wear sturdy footwear to avoid slipping. This unique rainforest trail can be more thrilling if you are not on a guided tour. Even though taking an independent trip is costlier, it is still a better idea than the guided itinerary. Your guide will make you gulp down each morsel of beautiful sights that you come across, whereas if you are traveling on your own, it gives you enough time to linger on and savor. By Renuka Singh"

"A Good Trail For Biking Melbourne has a convenient Bike Share program with rental spots throughout the city. Unfortunately, most of its beautiful parks are off-limits to bikes. This trail, however, is not. It's located on the south side of the Yarra River and makes for a delightful ride."

Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk

Tourist attraction · Tamborine North

"Up with the birds on the Mt Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk Walk through rainforest canopy with the Rainforest Skywalk, a 300 metre bridge suspended ten stories high that weaves its way through the ancient rainforest on Mt Tamborine. I'm scared of heights, but it's not scary at all, and I felt really safe the whole time - besides I was too busy taking in the view! You can do the walk at your own pace, it takes about an hour all up. The skywalk makes the beautiful rainforest accessible to all fitness levels, and the trail can be broken down into shorter journeys suitable for the elderly who wouldn't feel comfortable attempting a longer hike. The first 300 metres along the walkway are wheelchair accessible."

Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse

Tourist attraction · Busselton

"Short Lighthouse Tall Order A lighthouses has a huge responsibility to ships passing through its territory, a tall order if you will pardon the pun! So when I arrived at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse in Dunsborough, to find the shortest lighthouse I've ever seen -- I didn't understand how it could possibly do the job required of such a structure. It turns out, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is an engineering marvel in a way. Sitting very high above the ocean on a limestone cliff's edge, just at the right spot, its light reaches all the way to horizon in every pertinent direction. It has been doing this since it was erected in 1903. At its highest point, it is 123 metres above sea level. The guided tour of the lighthouse is worth every penny if you're a fan of maritime history or Geographe Bay. Also, it allows you access up into the lighthouse whereas merely exploring the area will not afford you that opportunity."

Manly To Spit Bridge Coastal Walk

Nature preserve · Balgowlah Heights

"From Shelly Beach in Manly, the path climbs a flight of stairs surrounded by jungle foliage before alternating between idyllic neighborhoods, clifftop bushland, secluded beaches, and more rainforest. Along the way, you’ll see tropical flowers and eucalyptus trees as well as many colorful birds and the area’s ubiquitous “water dragon” lizards. As soon as you feel hungry, you’ll likely encounter a beach café such as the cabana at Little Manly Cove that serves great paninis. White sand beaches with turquoise waters are the norm, and the path guides you to many that you would have otherwise never found. When you finally reach the Spit Bridge, you’ll be filled with accomplishment and the feeling that you covered a lot more than just six or seven miles."

"Hike Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach The hike from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach in Sydney , Australia , is one of the best urban paths I have experienced. Although you're never far from the city, the walk feels quite scenic at times, and the many beaches you come across along the way are all beautiful. Of course, you can always walk from Bondi to Coogee if you find yourself heading in the other direction. Either way, you'll find yourself at one of Sydney's top beach destinations. The hike is an easy walk that will include towering cliffs, sandy beaches, public pools, rock formations, parks, and epic vistas along the 6-kilometer trail. You could do the hike in a few hours, but it would be best to allocate at least three hours to fit in a stop at Bronte Beach for lunch or drinks. And if it is a hot day, you'll want some time for a swim!"

"Telstra Tower No trip to Canberra would be complete without a trip up the Telstra Tower! Unfortunately, they charge to get in and have the windows frosted so you can't get a free peek at the view. But if you eat at the restaurant, you can see the view from the revolving restaurant and also go outside on the viewing deck, and the food is pretty good. By Heather Alexander"

Mount Wellington

Mountain peak · Derwent Valley

"The Howling Wind The view of Hobart atop Mt. Wellington is stunning, but the gale force wind will shock you. Be prepared to walk at a 30 degree angle! By Rob Hughes"

Cape Hillsborough National Park

National park · Mackay

"Spherical Sand All along the Eastern Seashore of Australia you will encounter spheres of sand in patterns, lines, and random assortments on the beach. At first, it looks a bit like sand circles after an alien beach landing, but if you wait around long enough, you will observe the a sand bubbler crab hard at work on a natural masterpiece. On this particular evening, the tide was low and the entire beach was covered with little balls of sand. Cape Hillsborough National Park is a stunning bit of land with plenty of curiosities, including friendly beach-minded kangaroos and several walks including a long stretch of beach to amble along at the end of the day. If you are camping, this park is not to be missed!"
