Miami's Clubs and Nightlife
Gramps
Bar · Midtown
"Gramps: Beer. Cocktails. Air Conditioning When you live in Miami , you crave more than the glittery neon of South Beach. In Wynwood, the areas most up-and-coming hub for art and nightlife, Gramps appears like a grungy truck stop on the orange dive exterior. Inside, the bar includes live music, stand-up comedy and games. The bar serves creative speciality cocktails with flavorful, fresh ingredients. Outside, there's an expansive patio with graffiti, art, picnic tables and live sports broadcasts projected on the buildings exterior. The vibe here is totally relaxed and vibrant. The crowd consists of hipsters, artists and fashionable hippies."
Wood Tavern
Permanently Closed
"Wood Tavern Epitomizes Wynwood's Hipster Scene Wood Tavern epitomizes the Miami art/hipster vibe found in the new 'it' neighborhood, Wynwood. The bar appears like a standard dive in the front, but the outdoor oasis has picnic tables, a few games, strings of lights, and tons of graffiti—the biggest trademark of the area. The tavern's biggest draw is the station wagon that serves as a taco stand, serving flavorful tortillas filled with fresh ingredients. Taco Tuesday serves free grub from the 1964 Mercury commuter for free from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and 50¢ wings on Wednesdays. The patio scene at Wood is very casual. You'll find your fair share of hipsters and rugged artists."
Freehand Miami
Hotel · Miami Beach
"Freehand Miami Freehand Miami bills itself as “a hostel for a new generation of travelers.” Indeed, a visit here confirms that it’s very far from the stereotypical dingy hostel. In fact, were it not for the shared rooms, the Freehand would likely fall into the “boutique hotel” category. Room decor includes vividly colorful modern art and Mexican blankets, and free Wi-Fi is available. There are also private rooms that come with work desks and flat-screen TVs. The complimentary breakfast is popular with guests and includes Cuban pastries and locally roasted Panther coffee. Evenings are well-spent at the hostel's on-site bar, the Broken Shaker, which in 2014 was listed #22 on Drinks International’s World's 50 Best Bars list. It specializes in inventive “garden-to-glass” cocktails, which blend familiar spirits with unique homemade bitters and ingredients that aren’t usually found in cocktails, such as green bean juice."
